   An absolutely fantastic day This was a last minute booking as we arrived into Napier a day earlier than expected What a lucky result Don's knowledge is off the scale and his enthusiasm was infectious I have visited many wineries in the past but to be guided through the whole process was at a new level. His choices of wineries and his interaction throughout was something special Thanks Don for an education and a fabulous day with some lovely others guests. Highly recommend.

   Our day with Don could not have gone better. Picked up from our accommodation we toured four fine wineries stopping at one for lunch, Don’s knowledge of the local wine region and wine making generally was exceptional and we learnt a huge amount and tasted some fabulous wines. I’d highly recommend a day with Don if you want a Hawke’s Bay wine experience.

We had the VIP tour enhanced by Don ‘opening doors’ so we could trying a number of top wines highlighting the best of the best.    My wife and I have been on numerous private wine tours but have never had such a great experience as provided by Don. His expertise is incredible and he is willing to explain and pass on years of knowledge and experience. We learnt more in one day with Don than all the previous tours. He is extremely well respected in the region and we were treated to some great wines selected by Don at each of the wineries we visited. If you love wine and want to learn about what it takes to produce great wines make sure you don’t miss the opportunity to spend the day with Don.

   We were on the Viking Mars cruise ship. The length of the port call was shortened and the ship’s (overpriced) wine tour was fortunately cancelled. We reached out Don and arranged a private tour for my wife and I. What great good fortune! Don is extraordinarily knowledgeable about wines of the world and of course New Zealand, where he has a lifetime of experience growing grapes and making wine. Just as important, he is a hospitality professional as well! Engaging, personable, funny and interested in the people he meets and deals with. We have visited wine regions around the world, but never had a better time that we did with Don!

   Whether you are new to wine, or have a lot of experience, you will love exploring Hawke's Bay with Don Bird. He has so much knowledge of winemaking, and of the area. He is fun to talk to, he creates a special experience, and he can answer most any question you might have about winemaking or the Hawke's Bay region. We visited when the weather was incredibly abnormal, and Don found a way to adjust the itinerary and make the adventure wonderful. We have been to a lot of winemaking regions in the world, and we still learned a lot during our time with Don. I will not attempt to detail our full experience, but I am certain that you will not regret spending a day with Don...and sometimes, it's better to take the leap and just enjoy the day, as we did.
