“I'm from Texas originally and moved to Ohio, and when I tell you this was on par and better than a lot of Mexican food from Texas I'm not trying to fool you. I just got off a 19.5 hour flight and took a shower and was looking for something to eat. Found this place and had the fish tacos and lamb tacos and my goodness, I thought I was happy just making it to New Zealand, if the food is anywhere as good as this place I'm going to be willfully much lighter in my wallet. So good”

“Went in yesterday for a burger and fries and honestly was so surprised at how much I loved the food. I had a dirty something smash burger and my partner had the spicy chicken burger; both were so tasty and good value for money. Wanted to bring my sister who was fresh off a flight but didn’t make it before closing, will be coming back next time we’re in Auckland for sure Lady who worked there was so so nice too, would recommend”

“We've been here twice in the last month, and had a great meal each time. The new owners are really friendly and nice, and the bar has a nice coast atmoshere. On the Halloween night they had a dress up session with prizes, and Nelly was perfect as an Angel. The food is all great. I highly recommend the pizzas and the steak. Both are excellent. If I had to make one improvement suggestion, it would be to perhaps get a a wider range of craft beers. But generally this is a great place that I highly recommend.”

The portions were incredibly generous and I had no trouble demolishimg my own serving which even came with two lamb chops instead of just one- a great bonus if you ask me. The staff were also exceptionally kind and welcoming, which truly topped off an already fantastic dining experience at Wicked Five Spoon Takeaways.”

The staff were really nice and helpful from explaining the menu, each dish, how their smoking system works, and offering to open some of the blinds to cool our seating area down. Do expect to leave with quite a large bill, but that's the standard price to pay for good bbq around here.”

Ate there for the first time with a friend who works in hospo and we were both super impressed with the tacos. Good craft beer, lots of options and (for Ponsonby) not too devastatingly expensive. At risk of sounding overly dramatic: The fact that we have access to prompt doorstep delivery of all the main dried chiles and masa harina—in generous bulk quantities too—truly improves the quality of life here on the island for those of us Mexican-food lovers. Have been ordering from them for about 5 years now, and they've always had exceptional speed/service. The only thing I'm still missing here in NZ is access to fresh tomatillos, but can't fault Tío Pablo for not diversifying into fresh produce ;) Thank you for existing and for the great work you do, team!”
