“Both my boys board there and are very happy. A lot of opportunities to try out new hobbies and some really nice teachers. The school is very anti bullying so I think there are a few fake reviews here by people who have never been connected with the school. Kids from all backgrounds attend and there is definitely a place for everyone.”

“People say it's a bad school and it has a lot of problems. Being an ex student here it actually does not have that many problems. It's the students who decide to be successful or not, every other school is the same and will provide the same results depending on the student. Other than students there are some teachers who put in that extra effort to see you succeed and stay in contact with you even after school.”

“I got to run a course for the Year 5-6 students and was highly impressed by several things at Elim, Golflands: Firstly, the students were some of the easiest children to teach because they had great attitudes, were engaged in learning, and treated each other, their teachers, and myself – a guest speaker – with respect. You can tell a lot about a school by looking at how the children behave, and Elim's students are friendly, outgoing, and confident. So many children threw their hands up to volunteer as "confident actors" or "confident readers" in front of the entire class, which shows high self-esteem. When there were group activities, I barely had to guide children in learning because students stepped up to lead their mini groups and ensure everyone was included. Discussions were passionate and thoughtful. I saw sharing and compassion and helpfulness and all kinds of morals exhibited in each class. What a pleasure to teach! Secondly, staff. Although I was only at the school for a week, the staff made an effort to welcome me. Teachers invited me to sit with them during morning tea and lunch, whereas other schools may ignore visitors or be clicky in the staff room. Smiles all around wherever I went, and constant offers of support. After sessions, some teachers used their own break time to help me pack down equipment (as did some wonderful children). If I needed anything from last-minute printing to scissors, needs were attended to. From the admin staff to the relievers and teachers, the Elim staff went above and beyond. If my children develop attitudes like the staff at this school, then I would be a happy Mum. Final mention, the Christian values. Each lesson, teachers have the children welcome and conclude with a "Good morning, [name], God bless you!" Jesus and the Bible are freely discussed and incorporated everywhere. There were scriptures written on the paving stones, and prayers uttered every time a problem arrived. Teachers remind students of what is right according to the Bible and pray for each other in the staff room. Children going here will make peers with genuine hearts after God. God bless you, Elim!”

“Students from Kaipara College came out to World Challenge Tag Paintball in Riverhead Forest as part of Education outside the Classroom. The Students were well behaved and attentive. Teachers were well involved and interacted well with their students.”

I watched everyone else pay an qualify before me, which hurt as a single mum but then my time came, it was tricky trying to balance kids an working fulltime on my own but being able to sit in the dark during my free time an chip away at studying online was so good an now I'm qualified and have studied even further an the hard times seem so far behind me now. I love having qualifications behind me a career, money and a successful life. “The right school for my son who is academic and not very sporty (in fact, he wanted a school that did not focus on sport). It's been a huge jump coming from a public primary school into ACG Parnell, but he has learned more in the last 6 months than in the 6 years prior. There is a lot of homework, but over time students learn how to efficiently manage this and there are tests almost every week, and exams from Year 7... but what a great preparation for university years. Finally, as a parent I can see what he's learning and where he needs extra help. If you want your kid to go to a school that focuses on academic learning and extension of students, then send them here. If you want your child to go to a school that will be focusing more on "inquiry learning" and "child led learning", then this is not the right school for them. This school provides lots of clubs and extracurricular activities too - and their music, art and drama departments are awesome.”

“As a student who comes to this school and writes with a genuine opinion, to whoever is reading this, especially parents, I can confirm to you that the previous 1-star reviews are absolutely baloney. I am just a student. I am currently at Macleans college and been here for a couple of years hence sharing my general opinion. I AM NOT part of any school administration that writes the review because they are biased. Firstly I see these reviews talking about "racism". In the real life, of course its going to exist. Someone will always judge you based on the way you look. But it doesn't mean that it isn't dealt with at this school. There are serious consequences for racism so all aside, its not an issue here at Macleans. Im not a white student either, but I haven't seen 1 teacher at this school, of all I have ever talked to been racist ONCE, ever. Secondly, I see them talking about "They only care about academics." Well its partly true. Your child deserves quality education and the school wants them to be successful in life and if you're not willing to learn or at least give a damn about learning for your own good, then don't blame the school for it. Teachers here actually do a reasonable job at shaping students into successful academics and you also have house tutoring systems and more if you find learning the stuff hard. Ungrateful students who choose to post these bad reviews simply don't realise the plentiful resources they have to become a sucessful student. Now I know that not everyone likes studying. At times, me neither, but the school offers more than academic education. It aims to support a student's goals, and also opens SO much extracurriculars and sports activities if your child is intrested in sports. The reason why I said academic focus is "partly true" is that the school is simply looking for a lot more than just academic excellence. With the wide variety of extracurriculars it also helps students develop skills and become involved with activities they enjoy in the future. Uniform. Theres heaters in classrooms during winter and you have a sweater. Everything else very self-explanatory. Bullying. Yes, sadly, it happens. The bullying obviously comes from students who are either stressed about their life / have something going on in their lives or they're just a prick who seeks attention. I also consider the factor that the stress often comes from the way the school runs, as its harsh academic focus and other aspects can sometimes impact the students. It is NOT easily ignored. The amount of guidance from groups like consuelling etc will support you if you are bullied, and it will also be dealt very seriously by the school. The strict rules and conservative approach actually cut the amount of bullying in this school. I have personally seen many students get stood down or even removed from the school for being stupid. Actually, in my first few years I didn't get along with people either. I was also emotionally impacted by bullying. However, the school helped me become the person I am today through guidance and support. I wasn't an academic nor sporty person either. I hated both. But through reflection and growth I finally understood, the school was trying to help me. It never intended to harm me in any way. And do not say "the school doesn't care about you", that is the most untrue, pathetic, and ungrateful statement I've heard. There are school counselling for a reason. If you are to the point that you actually think the school doesn't care about you at all you need some serious self-reflection. Macleans does a great job at shaping the students so that they have maturity, responsibility, empathy and more. All this, is part of high school. It strives to help your child become sucessful in life and supports their dreams e.g sports and even esports/gaming (if thats what they really want). The “students” who are writing those 1-star reviews are the ones who either have something against this school and have the maturity of a 5-year-old or just don't care about school and hate it.”

“It's an amazing school, and I think it may be one of the best high schools on the north island. Firstly, its NCEA pass rate is high as a PRIVATE SCHOOL. Secondly, it's in an amazing location. You feel like u are in the countryside from all the breathtaking views. Lastly, all the teachers at the school teach from heart, and it really shows how much they care for the students. In conclusion, it is an astonishing, high achieving school that I think is highly underrated.”

“I'm giving 5 stars cause I had a good experience. It was the year 2019, these kids from MH thought they were hard. We showed them up G. The moment they came on our turf, no question asked G. 2 right hook and a shin, and those bloody jokes were out cold. Come to this school if you want to become a UFC fighter one day. Also on Wednesday its weed suck party in the Whainga toilets.”
