This school is very mid. The teachers are nice but sometimes topics and homework are repeated but some events are fun.

Learning here feels like a distant dream — most teachers expect us to teach ourselves through one-minute video clips and a few screenshots of questions. Don’t understand? Too bad. Asking for help is useless—unless you’re lucky enough to have a teacher like Mrs. Li, who actually cares about your education; which is rare in this school. Respect for students is basically zero, so don’t expect any. Some teachers go out of their way to be rude for no reason, like it’s a side quest. We’re told to respect our teachers and staff; let’s just say it’s a one-sided relationship. Bullying is ignored. We might celebrate Pink Shirt Day, but that feels more like an Instagram opportunity than a real celebration. Some students get away with everything, while others get punished for the tiniest things—even if they’ve apologized or tried to fix their mistakes. Want to try something new? Leave—it’s a waste of time. Unless you’re already a master at that activity, students never get a fair chance at anything. Whether it’s trying out something new or just asking for a detailed explanation for grades, teachers always seem to have bias. Some teachers also seem like they don't take 'No' or 'I Don't Know' as an answer. Communication is a mess. We often find out about things at the last minute—or never at all. We’re meant to guess, and if we express our views, we’re accused of “talking back.” Expressing our views isn’t welcomed at all—it’s shut down. The sandwiches they hand out? Let’s just say the person who invented the sandwich would sue for defamation. Even some real not fake teachers express their disappointment in school. Fine, the building looks great on the outside—but that’s only for the show. The Wi-Fi is constantly on a break, the lights in our classroom flicker like we’re in a horror movie, and nothing ever works. This school could redeem itself—but right now, that future feels far off. For now, my only advice is: RUN WHILE YOU CAN.

As a student from Mountains Whānau(THE BEST WHANAU BTW), I think MHJC is a pretty good school. Mountains is really chill and the teachers are usually nice. Our science teacher is super chill and just a cool person overall. Not every teacher is like that though. One time, a student threw my laptop on the floor. I told the deputy principal (he was in charge of Mountains then, now he's the deputy of the whole school) and he made both of us come to his office. The other kid lied and said I threw his laptop, and since he was in the same LA group as the teacher, he believed him instead of me. That was really unfair. Most of the time though, school is fun. We go on some cool trips and the teachers don’t act too strict. They actually try to help you and make class fun. Mountains has teachers with great humour like MR. ROBERT BARTHOLOMEW! who sadly moved to coast whanau :( But there are some annoying things. We have assemblies about stuff no one really cares about and it feels like a waste of time. The board games are all messed up because people don’t know how to put the pieces back. One day you can play chess, the next day there’s just one random king left in the box. Also, a lot of the students act like they’re tough and cool. They speak too much slang and try to show off with their haircuts and shoes. It gets kinda annoying sometimes. I don’t recommend you put your kid in this school if you’re worried about them being influenced by other kids. Even with all that, I still like this school. I’m about to graduate and I’ll miss it. Had some good times here.

I had to make a FAKE EMAIL just to write this. Why? Because if the school knew a student dared criticize them, they’d punish me instead of fixing their failures. That’s how terrified we are of their retaliation. Mission Heights Junior College. They keep talking about how “it's a school within a school.” But honestly? It’s just another way for teachers to control us – they literally brag about "close monitoring"! We get forced into random groups, do pointless competitions nobody cares about, and get separated when one whānau wins. Then we’re lectured about "Whānau spirit" when we don’t fake excitement. They claim it builds "pride, fun and belonging," but it feels like the exact opposite. How is this "support"? It’s a military camp – not a school that cares. The work is embarrassingly easy – like we’re still in primary school, even though they lecture us about being in “Junior College.” We waste time re-learning basic multiplication and division while important subjects get rushed. And my math teacher still hasn’t graded my assessment from THREE MONTHS ago. His skills are so bad, he doesn’t even understand decimals sometimes – we had to correct him in class! Teachers just banter like we’re monkeys instead of giving real feedback. He’s so clueless, we had to correct his decimal mistakes in class. Teachers mock us like we’re monkeys instead of teaching. Forget your PE shirt? Straight to the DP. Accidentally whisper helping a classmate during silent reading? Daily Report. But actual bullies face zero consequences because teachers can’t be bothered. Worst part? No warnings – just instant punishment for things we didn’t even know were wrong. They’ll yell "What did you do?!" while we stand there confused. Meet 8M2’s "student voice" proof this school rewards predators: Sexualizes girls openly: "Her breasts are so developed," "I’ll upgrade girlfriends." Protected by teachers: They hear it and IGNORE HIM. Why? He photocopies their worksheets and smiles in assemblies. Above the law: Swears at peers? Disrupting class? No punishment. But if YOU breathe? Detention. Being a favourite student puts you above the rules. That is a prime example. Growing Greatness is a scam and lie. The only "greatness" here is the teachers’ talent for bullying students and underperforming. Save your sanity and go to a better school.

I’m in my second year at Mission Heights Junior College, and honestly, this school is a mess. The only good thing about it is Miss Katafono—she actually cares about students and makes learning fun. But aside from her, MHJC has way too many problems. I had to make a fake account to post this because this school doesn’t take criticism well. Last year, a friend of mine got in trouble just for posting a bad review about the school. They actually had to meet with the dean and got punished just for speaking the truth. That’s messed up, and it’s one of the reasons I’m keeping this anonymous. The teaching is mostly terrible. Some teachers don’t even try—they just hand out worksheets and expect students to teach themselves. If you don’t understand something, too bad. Help is impossible to get or completely useless. The school looks nice, but that’s just for show. The WiFi is garbage, the computers are ancient, and the classrooms are either way too hot or freezing cold. Half the time, things don’t even work properly. The school seems more focused on appearances than actually fixing real issues. Bullying is a huge issue, and the school does almost nothing about it. They claim to have a "zero-tolerance policy," but that’s a joke. Some kids can get away with anything, while others get punished over tiny things. The rules are completely unfair and don’t even make sense half the time. Extracurricular activities? If you’re not already amazing at something, forget it. Sports teams and clubs feel like they’re only for a select few, and if you try to join, good luck. Most of the activities are unorganized, and half the time, students don’t even get a fair chance. The communication is horrible. Important things get announced at the last minute, and when students or parents bring up concerns, the school either ignores them or brushes them off. It feels like they only care when it makes them look good. The ONLY reason this school isn’t a complete disaster is Miss Katafono. She actually teaches properly, treats students with respect, and makes learning interesting. If every teacher was like her, MHJC would be a way better place.

This school is not good when I came here in year 7 and left in year 10 I would consider these 4 years the worst use of time. The teachers really don ´ t care about how you feel.

Most Horrible school ever, should never send your kids here unless you want them to suffer. I was a student here and It was the worst 4 yrs of my life. Teachers aren't able to handle problems with students and end up siding with the student they like more. They never acuclly care about students well being like they say they do. For so many yrs our whanau leader was always siding with the girl who would bully me and my friends constantly. The teachers here are not it but the school its alr. Shouldn't send your kid here. Go to botany downs secondary college.

The experiences I've had with the school was great. The school offers a vast number of new and unique opportunities for the kids and is a great school for in class and out of class learning. My child was able to go on 5 different camps in 2 years. Most teachers are amazing and really help the kids learn, but my child did say that there were a few teachers that didn't involve themselves with the students and their learning and were rude to kids when they were unsure about something. overall the school is a great place to send your kids.
