“A Hidden Gem on Dominion Road We’ve passed by Spicy House countless times and finally decided to step in – and what a delightful decision it was! This small restaurant has its unique charm: it’s compact, bustling, yet incredibly well-organized. Despite the busy atmosphere, the efficiency and attentiveness of the staff stood out. There were five staff members at the front counter, ensuring every request was promptly addressed and tables were swiftly cleaned and turned over for the next guests. One of the most striking aspects of Spicy House is its diverse clientele. It’s arguably the only Chinese restaurant in Auckland where you’ll find more non-Chinese customers than Chinese, which speaks volumes about its broad appeal and the quality of its food. Speaking of the food, it was absolutely delicious. The flavors were rich and authentic, and the beef was particularly noteworthy – tender and perfectly cooked. Each dish we tried was a testament to the culinary skills of the kitchen staff. The prices are reasonable, offering great value for the quality and portion sizes. Overall, our experience at Spicy House was fantastic. The combination of excellent service, delicious food, and a welcoming atmosphere makes it a standout on Dominion Road. She was extremely helpful and was really patient when we communicate with her, she was also enthusiastically conversing with us. Her service made our experience in this restaurant outstanding. Shania was really fast and efficient when it comes to bringing the food on time and also taking our used plates and glasses. Thank you so much for an amazing service! We will definitely choose to eat here again when we have another function or even just to eat in here.”

“I had spinach kofta and garlic naan in dinner yesterday (i.e. 28 Aug 2025). The food was very delicious. They offered me peanuts free of cost, as starter. The staff is very polite and courteous. The restaurant is very spacious with a great ambience. I enjoyed having dinner here.”

“Ordered : Mapo Tofu (vegan), Kung paw Chicken and rice ($2.5/ bowl) Good quality and quantity for the price. Mapo Tofu - Order max spice level. Good quantity spicy Sichuan pepper. Simple loved it with rice. Kung paw chicken - more of peanuts than chicken but flavour taste. Loved peanuts as it had a sweet taste but no Sichuan pepper. Not too spicy as Mapo Tofu.”

“I ordered the chicken burger and the steak, and both were absolutely delicious. The chicken burger was fresh, filling, and beautifully put together — a crispy, flavourful chicken fillet in a soft bun with fresh lettuce, served with hot, perfectly cooked fries on the side. Simple, comforting, and very satisfying. The steak was cooked perfectly — tender, juicy, and full of flavour. It came with smooth, creamy mash, fresh vegetables, and a rich gravy that brought everything together so well. The portion size was generous, and the balance on the plate was spot on. Everything tasted fresh, well prepared, and thoughtfully cooked. A really enjoyable meal overall, and I would happily order both dishes again.”

“Nice place with excellent ambience. Cocktails were spot on must try Espresso Martini and Oasis in the thar. In starter snowflake chicken was delicious and must try one. The second starter “Grilled paneer” was not that up to the mark. (Improvement required) In the mains Kadai paneer & Vegetable Jalfrazi were superb with unique richness in test and texture. The way they served the roti was very new and unique. The place really lived up to our expectations. Must visit place”

“Food is amazing here. Mexico chicken, croquettes, fish tacos, pork carnitas tacos were the standout. The sangria is very refreshing as well. Service is a little slow (we waited almost 40 mins for tacos because I think they forgot our order). reservations needed for dinner or come after 830pm. Will come back again but better service please!”

“Loved it! Tacos were great and literally everything there is gluten free. It's a shame the churros were out of stock and the hot sauces weren't spicy, but delicious food nonetheless. The murals really added to our experience.”
