Upon arrival, I found the Quality Inn to appear pretty dated. Despite that, I found the room to be comfortable. The shower had good pressure and was really hot, the bed was comfy, the room was warm at night, and it was quiet enough once I closed all the windows. The lady who checked us in was also really friendly so I thought it was an OK place to stay at. And then………. In the middle of the night on my 2nd night, the smoke alarm started doing the “low battery” beep. Luckily, I was able to reach it and bring it down to take the battery out. I then woke up to ants all over the counter in the kitchenette. They had found their way into my box of muesli so that had to be chucked out which sucked as I had only had one bowl of it. Luckily, that was the only food outside the fridge asides from a banana so I didn’t lose anything else. I found it to be quite concerning and disappointing that the Quality Inn does not follow the recommended guidelines of changing smoke alarm batteries at the same time every year (e.g. New Years, daylight savings) which keeps the batteries from getting to the point of being low (and disturbing their guests). The ant problem was also very concerning. These are 2 problems that I have never had anywhere else after decades of travelling.

We booked for two queen beds, arrived and was told only one person was booked in to stay. Room had one queen bed and one single. Air conditioning leaked. Then was told we would have to pay extra to upgrade to another room. Lastly my friend pulls back the sheets to get into the QB and there was hundreds of small ants crawling all over the bed. No one onsite after hours to help. Beautiful location, but the absolute worst hotel to stay in.

Worst Customer Service Experience – Avoid This Hotel I had an incredibly disappointing experience with one of the receptionists at this hotel. During the day, we called to book a room for three adults, and the booking was confirmed for three people. However, when we arrived in the evening, a lady who introduced herself as the senior receptionist told us the booking was incorrect and only valid for two people. We politely asked her to call and confirm with the staff member who took our booking earlier, but she refused, saying she could not interrupt her colleague. To our shock, she then told us to go back to Auckland where we came from. When we expressed our disappointment, she started arguing with us immediately. Her attitude was unprofessional and rude, completely lacking in basic customer service skills. What made the situation worse was that she called the police claiming we had threatened her — which was absolutely untrue. At no point did we threaten anyone; we only requested that she clarify the booking with her staff. It felt like she was deliberately trying to deny us accommodation, and her behavior came across as discriminatory. Thankfully, the police were understanding and helped us find a nearby hotel where we stayed comfortably at a better price. I strongly urge the hotel management to take serious action regarding this senior receptionist. Her dishonesty and poor treatment of customers are damaging the hotel's reputation. If you value respectful and honest service, please avoid this hotel.

We had an excellent stay at Quality Inn Napier! From check-in to check-out, everything went smoothly. Staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. Room was spacious, clean, and tidy, with two comfortable queen beds. It was also very quiet, which gave us a restful and uninterrupted sleep each night. They kindly provided a portable double hot plate upon request, which was perfect for preparing our own meals. The toilet and bathroom were spotless—another big plus. Location is also a standout—convenient and walkable to Marine Parade, which made exploring Napier easy and enjoyable. Free parking was spacious and felt very safe, adding to the peace of mind during our stay. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would gladly stay here again. Highly recommended!

Stayed 4 nights as part of the cyclone response. This place really offers value for money, great location, great rooms with everything you need plus more. The pool and restaurant were awesome and offered some normality @ the end of the day. Amazing food @ the restaurant.

The receptionist continued tryping as I stood for what seemed ages, no acknowledgement I existed until I said hello, to just have her look, and yes, continue typing. Only once she was, I imagine, done, or she was ready. Did she finally acknowledge I was there. There must be two booking screens because she just scooted over to the other screen on her office chair. Was advised that due to my late arrival ( just a late 8.05pm flight into Napier), I would need to park on the street if no parking was available. I'm just over accommodation that does not have enough parking and leaves it to a first in, first served basis. Then, the hotel has two flights of stairs to the sea view rooms to navigate, but lugging a 20kg case and carry on case up 2 flights of metal outside stairs is a joke. Thank goodness it wasn't raining. My advice to travellers is, if you book seaview rooms, you MUST be prepared to carry your cases up two flights of outdoor stairs. Absurd bath/shower arrangements, so you also need to step up and into the shower. All in all, it is a disappointing accommodation with woeful parking, atrocious outside metal stairwells, and just not quality at all. I stayed at another hotel in Napier on my return flight out with sea views, and that was outstanding and only a fraction more I'm cost. Needless to say, the non-Qualiity Inn Napier was a miserable experience.
