“The star is the classic. The good ol days of smoking indoors is what comes with this, a place of peace for smokers. A good ol’ tradition thanks to the smokers room where the smokers can enjoy a good beer and smoke without freezing in the Kihikihi cold nights. Please dont change. These things are what are going extinct”

“Beautiful premises and friendly staff. Delicious bubble tea. Loved the flavored pearls that tasted like toffee, unlike some places that add the pearls only for texture. I had the Dirty Milk Tea with Pearls. The tea itself could have tasted a bit more of tea instead of straight milk, but it made a good drink nonetheless with the pearls. Loved the decor, and the service.”

“Come for the climb, stay for the pies. After a semi-leisurely climb up Mount Te Aroha, my friend and I decided to stop at Kevin's Bakery for a food replen. The exterior seemed unassuming, and we were prepared for a meal pervaded by mediocrity. Upon entry, we were happily greeted by Kevin and his wife as we carefully selected our afternoon meal; she chose a butter chicken pie, I went for the reliable staple of steak and onion. The dappled sunlight splashed across our faces outside, as we cautiously bit into the crust. Dense chunks of meat and gravy filled my mouth, whilst flakes of perfectly formed pastry fell across my lap. I was in pie heaven. Within a few minutes I had consumed this bountiful feast, and returned back into the store for more. 10/10, would purchase multiple pies again.”

“Went in for dinner last night with a big group of 30+ people. Coming from a hospitality background myself, I knew it would be a challenge for the staff, but they handled it really well. The fire alarm went off twice during our visit, so we had to evacuate each time — obviously annoying for everyone, but totally out of the staff’s control. They followed protocol and managed the situation calmly and professionally, especially considering many of the team looked quite young. Big credit to them. Surprisingly, they even gave us a 10% discount, which they didn’t have to do since the issue wasn’t their fault. It was a nice gesture and appreciated by the whole group. The food has definitely improved since I was last here a couple of years ago, which was great to see. Service was spot on too — friendly, attentive, and efficient. All in all, a good experience given the circumstances. I don’t normally leave reviews, but this one was well deserved. Will definitely be back.”

“I’ve accomplished something monumental by finishing my first Grande Green Tea Latte. I had to work through slurps and sips and scoops of cream. I pushed as the sugar smashed against my brain. I squashed the internal rebellion of doubt that arose from my teenage anti-consumerist politics. I’m in my 30’s now and it’s a revelation to find joy in something that once made my stomach twist. I’ve come to realize that Starbucks is the cosmic center of a city. It’s the one constant force in a chaotic world. Honestly, learning to love Starbucks is like falling in love with life. There are so many possibilities ahead of me: Caramel Frappuccinos, Peppermint Mochas. The coffee nerd of my early twenties is dead and I’m being reborn as a new man. I want to make new decisions that allow me to experience pure pleasure, again and again and again. The future has never felt this bright.”
