Now the Italian Bakery and Espresso, on SH27. Welcoming, modest hosts and really nice cabinet food which they make fresh on site. We enjoyed the strong coffee, the light as air cream roll, the perfectly spiced Samosa. They had savoury and sweet scones, sandwich and roll options, cakes and pies , all of which looked fresh .Comfortable and cool seating options. I usually notice the cafe as I am driving past it, wish it were better signposted so we could slow down safely. Now that I know how good it is, I will plan my Auckland trips around a break here! Suggestion for improvement. The toilets were really clean, just some linoleum was peeling on the wall. Hence the 4 stars for atmosphere. The cafe itself was a wonderful space.

A very cute cafe right on the highway (perfect for a stopover). The owner if very friendly - the pies, pastries very good, and the espresso is amazing. The seating outside on the side is lovely as well. [The name is now Italian Cafe & Espresso, not Otobahn Cafe]
