“Couldn’t recommend this place enough. Super yummy coffee, cabinet snacks are out of this world, lots of vegan options if that’s your jam. All the tables have a deck of conversation starters to connect with your friends, beautiful barista Georgia is always fabulously dressed and makes a perfect flattie, and another lovely human named Kate always has a great chat with me and organizes events here that help bring the community together. Absolute 10/10 café.”

“I come in here to get dried meat sausages which are excellent! There is a good selection of fresh locally grown veges, baked bread from Volare in Hamilton, and the biggest selection of cheeses I've seen anywhere! The food and coffee is great. But what makes it really special is the staff member Albert remembers my name every time I go in - even though my name is quite unusual. Really appreciate the service here. “What a fabulous place to meet up with friends. Set on the edge of Coronation park, it's away from the hustle and bustle, but close to the main shopping street, and Pilot bay. The treats on offer are devine, but my favorite is the cheesy savory scone. (They do celebration cakes too) Excellent coffee and the lemon ginger tea is delicious. The staff are awesome and look after our sizable group with ease, and nothing is too much trouble.”

“Haven’t tried much as we came in the morning for light breakfast. Heaps of food options in a cabinet as well as desserts and a reasonable selection of food on a menu. We had an apple tart and a lemon crepes. Tart was 10/10. Surely recommended”

“Recently Maui at the Seafood counter went absolutely over and above to make sure I had a fresh kingfish to fulfil an order I made. He was professional, kind and did such a wonderful job not only filleting and skinning the fish, but making sure I got a fish that was the correct size for my needs. Im very greatful, as I had already enquired multiple other places before I was able to find someone who could fulfil the order. Thank you Maui! “Service was great all round. Pie pastry was flaky and gravy was dark with thick chunks of meat. They cooked us fresh crinkle style chips and they were some of the best I’ve ever had. Chicken thighs were crispy and juicy. Very reasonably priced.”

“First ever visit and I was not disappointed. The Sausage Roll was fresh, the pastry was crisp the filling was flavourful and filled the pastry. The Almond Croissant and the Panna Chocolate (even tho I didn't try them until I got back to Whakatane about 4hrs later) was absolutely devine. But what topped it all off was that the staff, as well as being friendly and helpful and just a breath of fresh air, actually brought everything out to the car, I have never had anyone do that for me. I am sure that locals know all this about Best anyways but they definitely deserve praise and I challenge all locals to nominate them for the 2024 Prospa Local Business Heroes because they deserve it.
