“I visited the restaurant midweek for dinner with my friend. An Arab friend had recommended it. The atmosphere and decor are lovely. The staff are very friendly. We had chicken mandi and lamb tikka, which were truly delicious. The tea was also wonderfully made. If you enjoy Middle Eastern food, I highly recommend it.”

“Okay just get two dishes. Samsun jjajjangmyun (seafood version of the black bean noodle) and chapsal tangsooyook (fried pork with sweet and sour source but the chapsal (sticky rice) version . We got the smaller size this day. These are our go to. We have tried some of the other dishes but these two are worth it!”

“Hard to find places that are this good! I rarely crave certain dishes or restaurants, and I’ve come here about 5 times, mostly for the Olympus platter shown in the photos. I’ve also gotten the platter with the chicken and a lamb wrap. Everything is so extremely delicious, and amazing value for money as the portions are extremely generous. Truly so rare. I am also not one usually impressed with salads, so the fact that every salad I’ve had from here is addicting is saying something. The lamb and chicken are both super succulent and fall apart, the sides are great, so fresh and flavourful, and everything is amazing value for money, very rare for the quality of food. The second time we went they had warmed up the flatbread which made a massive difference. The dips are flavourful and fresh, tahini dressing on the cauliflower salad is delicious, the chunk of crispy halloumi is so good. The complimentary hot tea is also such a nice addition that I haven’t seen many places. Very high quality of food, service, and bang for your buck. Will keep coming back here are trying more things for sure, but the Olympus will always be a crowd pleaser.”

“My husband and I got married at McHughes on the 24th October 2025. We had both our ceremony & reception here. The venue is set right on the beautiful Cheltenham beach with stunning panoramic sea views of Rangitoto, North Head and the Waitamata Harbour. Right from the start James was great at communicating and was very accommodating, helpful and supportive. At the wedding rehearsal we set up the arch and were allowed to store decorations for the day. It was easy for our florist and DJ to set up for the ceremony held inside. James did an amazing job setting up the venue, with gorgeous tables and chair covers, Inside there are lovely big pillars with fairy lights and a dance floor. We got a lot of positive feedback from our guests on how delicious the canapés, buffet dinner and desserts were, with a wonderful variety to choose from. James and his team were very well organised and made sure everything ran smoothly. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and attentive to our guests and made the day very special and memorable. We had the Gold package and it was very affordable and reasonable, especially compared to other venues. We would not hesitate into recommending James, Raj and the team at McHughes for a wedding or any private function event. Thank you all very much ❤️”

The family owned and operated business is authentic to the word, not only will they serve you the best kebab you've ever eaten, you can also stock up on all you middle eastern groceries and their inhouse Pita breads which are often still warm in the bag from coming off the conveyor belt. I Love this place, love the people & will always travel near or far if the temples screaming for a delicious meal.”
