Great tour that most importantly goes towards conservation! We just missed a yellow eyed penguin going into the dunes on our walk but seen little blue penguins in their nesting boxes as well as sea lions, NZ fur seals and various bird life. They had two yellow eyed penguins in their rehab center so we were able to see one in person still. Would recommend especially if you love learning about the wildlife and conservation in the area!

Truly great cause to support. The astonishing decline in certain penguin numbers is frightening. Quite a journey as we arrived on a cruise and had a ferry ride of about 15mins and a minibus ride of a similar distance. The intro video was good, but our guide should have pointed out that some aspects shown were not going to be part of our tour. Very little sign of wildlife as we toured round. However, it was nice to see the 3 penguins that had been rescued and becoming prepared to be released back into the wild.

During our trip to New Zealand it was import to us to visit places that are working to help NZ flora and fauna, OPERA was top of our list due to their hard work to help the endangered Yellow-eyes Penguin. We toured part of their preserve to see the nesting boxes, the amazing wild coast line and the rehabilitation center learning about things as we toured. They had two juvenile Yellow-eyed Penguins in rehabilitation and we were given the opportunity to visit them under strict supervision. We also got to see many seal-lions in their natural environment as well as Tiny Blue Penguins in nesting boxes. The staff LOVE what they do and it shows in their work. A couple of days after our visit to OPERA we did a tour of Milford Sound and during the cruise portion we got to see Yellow-eyed Penguins in the wild which was so beautiful. On a side note one of their logos is the Islands of New Zealand and it is fantastic, I don’t wear t-shirts but I purchased one solely because I loved the logo.

Lily our tour guide took us on a wonderful journey. Showing us and explaining to us the importance of all they do. It was such a wonderful experience. We highly recommend it. The beach was amazing, seeing the animals in the wild was spectacular. Seeing the penguins in the hides was truly special. Our 9yo really enjoyed herself too. The walk, bus tour, sight seeing animals was very exciting!

Incredible work by the OPERA! During our tour they explained us how they started it and they work towards the conservation of penguins and andemic wildlife in general. It goes from replanting trees to having a rehabilitation center for yellow eyed penguins. It is a great location if you want to spot little blue penguins, fur seals and sea lions without bothering them. And because of the rehabilitation center you have the chance to be close to yellow eyed penguins as well.

Visited our yesterday, 17th June 23. Saskia is such a great tour guide, the work they do here is amazing. I can't believe that the fishing laws are so terrible in our country! We managed to catch the penguins returning to land but unfortunately we were at the lookout higher on the hills.

Knowledgeable and friendly staff that are doing an amazing job preserving the Yellow Eyed Penguins. The scenery is absolutely amazing and you’ll be guaranteed to see Yellow Eyed Penguins in the rehabilitation center. We were also lucky enough to see a penguin wandering by the ocean. However, seeing penguins in the wild is rare according to the staff, so please be prepared for that. Well worth coming all the way from Finland!

Probably the best place to see Yellow Eyed Penguins. They rehabilitate sick penguins, which you can see in enclosures, and then you go down to the wildlife reserve and watch the beach through binoculars from a hide. We were lucky enough to see two more coming in from the ocean. Worth taking you own binoculars if you have them. Nice conversation centre doing great work, which justifies the relatively high entrance fee.

The work they do to rehabilitate the endangered Yello Eyed peguin and their success rate is amazing. The tour is well worth the money. Adrian was a great guide and botanist so the walk not only included beautiful scenery but also understanding the importance of vegetation and forests for the survival of the penguins. Also wonderful opportunity to see the Yellow Eyed up close as they go through recovery. AND the drive along the bay to Penguin Place is fantastic.

My first experience to see a penguin infront of me, this place is helping in a great way to take care for yellow eye penguins because they are very rare and close to extinct. I hope our next generations will be able to see this beautiful bird. Really impressed by the work done by the staff here. If you are around dunedin and have intrest in wildlife, then it is a must see place.
