This place seems to be a very in house establishment. That means if you're not from browns bay don't bother. What the staff didn't know is I was born up the road from this building. My best friend did uis bakers apprenticeship across the road from this bar. The staff seem friendly to locals however if you are a stranger you may as well go somewhere else. I sit at a table which was left with the previous diners left offers...glasses plates and food..for over 30 minutes while staff including rhe owner himself and his son just left the mess. I've been in hospitality for over 40 years...I'm shocked by the lack of effort and nonchalant attitude to someone who is in his 60s. My partner and i have visited a few times after our Thursday dance lessons and both of us have been dismissed as non entities. I'd suggest choosing a differ venue.

I’m not a regular, but I used to go in the summer to enjoy the live music, drink a beer, and take in the view. Last Saturday, I went for lunch, and the atmosphere changed. My partner and I ordered food, which took more than 30 minutes to arrive, even though the place was empty. The food arrived, but no cutlery was available. We ordered chicken Punjabi with the addition of garlic bread (overcooked, nothing special, it was from the supermarket), and I ordered grilled chicken thighs

I'm a bit sad to be writing this tbh. I've been an irregular ( out of towner) but faithful patron of Speaker's for 20+ years. I've enjoyed the no-poseur atmosphere and had all manner of their menu ,with my real go to being the legendary Bangers n Mash. Well, yesterday I drove from Hobsonville all way to Browns Bay just to njoy, support n dine at Speakers. The barlady was fun, and the Kirin was off the dial good, but sadly the BangersN mash were dreadful. Sorry guys, two scrawny El cheapo snarlers don't cut it compared to the super quality Old English sossies of yore. The gravey barely made the cut and the mash was bland, dry and not the fluffy moist creme version I have loved previously. And oh, there was so much green food colorant on the mushy peas it was flourescent!! ( My poo was bright green this morning, if you're interested). Sorry guys, but it was a freakin disgrace. I was hungry as hell so I ate it, but at $38 for a snack lunch n a beer I expect your traditional, previously grand enjoyment of this humble but wonderful British dish. Don't use cheap crap sausages. They're $1.50 down at Bunnings, for the local Cat-Rescue charity. Cheers

Great place, loads of bars in browns bay but this one has a bit of character and the prices are the best around . Really nice friendly staff. Propa decent bit of food and portions are massive especially the hake and chips I think. If your just passing through I honestly recommend coming here for few beers and food.

Food was very tasty, very generous servings and great prices. Awesome service too. It is just like an old English pub complete with cosy warm fire. We will be back again for sure.

Went here on 01/07/23 for a family pub lunch. It's always good to have a pint of ice cold Kilkenny on tap. The food and service were by far the best I've seen in a long time from any place. Huge servings for a reasonable price that came out super fast and hot. Chips were slightly dry but didn't bother us. Friendly and kind waitress and bar staff. Great view of the ocean from inside and out. Everyone seemed happy and enjoyed themselves. Highly recommend to all to come along and visit this place if you're in the area. Will be back soon

Big meals at good prices and the wait wasn’t long. British pub grub sums up the menu. Unfortunately my medium rare steak was a fair way beyond medium but overall it was a good feed for everyone.

Great pub experience. Come for the weekly dinner specials! We came on a Thursday so my boyfriend could have the 500gram steak for $20. What a bargain! He ordered it medium and had a little regret for not choosing medium rare as it was a tad dry - but he was otherwise really happy with the meal. There's always a nive buzz in the place with plenty of people having a good time. I love how efficient they are with their ordering system as well

A fantastic place to be after work whether it is sunny, windy or rainy as the venue accommodates all sorts of weather as you keep contemplating the wonders of one of the beautiful beach in New Zealand. You will be attempted to go everyday to be served nice evening meal + free glass of wine or beer (enjoy your choice).
