“A Hidden Gem on Dominion Road We’ve passed by Spicy House countless times and finally decided to step in – and what a delightful decision it was! This small restaurant has its unique charm: it’s compact, bustling, yet incredibly well-organized. Despite the busy atmosphere, the efficiency and attentiveness of the staff stood out. There were five staff members at the front counter, ensuring every request was promptly addressed and tables were swiftly cleaned and turned over for the next guests. One of the most striking aspects of Spicy House is its diverse clientele. It’s arguably the only Chinese restaurant in Auckland where you’ll find more non-Chinese customers than Chinese, which speaks volumes about its broad appeal and the quality of its food. Speaking of the food, it was absolutely delicious. The flavors were rich and authentic, and the beef was particularly noteworthy – tender and perfectly cooked. Each dish we tried was a testament to the culinary skills of the kitchen staff. The prices are reasonable, offering great value for the quality and portion sizes. Overall, our experience at Spicy House was fantastic. The combination of excellent service, delicious food, and a welcoming atmosphere makes it a standout on Dominion Road. “Surprisingly authentic Chinese restaurant in the middle of Auckland CBD. The food is well prepared. It is apparent that they actually take the time to marinate the food for an adequate amount of time using the right seasoning before cooking, which yields an authentic and intense flavor. This is not the typical Chinese restaurant which just dump salty sauce on bland meat. This place is legit! Service was quick and friendly, makes one feel like going home for dinner. All good. I went there twice in three days and consistently failed to take pictures of the food before eating because it was just too yummy.”

“Absolutely loved the custom made pizza! The flavors were perfectly balanced, and everything from the pizza to the sides and dessert was fresh and delicious. The staff were incredibly friendly and guided us through the ordering process with ease. I will definitely be coming back again and again. Highly recommended!”

“This place has great food, but it's a hole in the wall, almost literally. It opened at noon and you have to go down this long hallway with bottles hanging. You sit on rickety wooden crates, there are 3 different rooms or sections. See if you can get the one in the back it's very laid back. We tried almost Eveything, I'd say you have a hard time finding something that you don't enjoy. Try the thumbs up if you're looking for Pepsi or coke.”

“I didn’t have food but the beers were tasty and there was a great bar man who asked where I was from and what brought me to Auckland. I said I was there for Pearl Jam and he then put a grunge/alt rock playlist on without me even requesting it. Thank you for making it a great evening and the beers were quality.”

“My spouse loves this place. They got out of the hospital and the first thing they wanted was to order the udon through UberEats. It's their favourite udon in this city. I also enjoy the salmon teriyaki and chicken katsu donburi and we always get several miso soup as they're quite good.”

“Ordered : Mapo Tofu (vegan), Kung paw Chicken and rice ($2.5/ bowl) Good quality and quantity for the price. Mapo Tofu - Order max spice level. Good quantity spicy Sichuan pepper. Simple loved it with rice. Kung paw chicken - more of peanuts than chicken but flavour taste. Loved peanuts as it had a sweet taste but no Sichuan pepper. Not too spicy as Mapo Tofu.”

“Food is amazing here. Mexico chicken, croquettes, fish tacos, pork carnitas tacos were the standout. The sangria is very refreshing as well. Service is a little slow (we waited almost 40 mins for tacos because I think they forgot our order). reservations needed for dinner or come after 830pm. “Had lunch here today and ordered the chicken katsu donburi special for only $17.50. Best value for lunch, as it also comes with a small bowl of miso soup. The chicken katsu was tasty and the serving size is enough to make me full. The salad is good as well as the carrot tempura with dipping sauce. The staff is nice and friendly. Will come back to try the sushi train or some other food in the menu, and better with my family.”

“We came here around 9 years ago and remembering how good it was we brought some friends and it did not disappoint. Our waitress Olive was fabulous, attentive and knowledgeable. The food was all divine. The staff are welcoming and friendly and celebrate you eating all you can. It's easy to get to from the city by catching a ferry as it takes you almost right to the door. This is an experience restaurant that is worth every dollar.”
