They communicated his needs well and regularly to us and we were able to provide consistent support to him in this adjustment period. After a couple of months we have seen how he has improved and thrived in his environment. He has gained his confidence to speak to his friends and teachers, he has gained friends whom he plays with regularly. He looks forward to going to kindergarten everyday. My son is happy and he enjoys his time learning alongside his peers and his teachers.”

“Our son has been going here for almost a year now and he absolutely loves it. The large outdoor play area and lovely flow from the house to the garden is so lovely. The kaiako (teachers) are genuinely caring, experienced, and incredibly attentive to each child’s personality and needs. The learning environment is calm, nurturing, and full of opportunities to explore — both inside and in their beautiful outdoor area. We also love how much the kaiako have a wide variety of different and new activities, both indoor and outdoor, every day! The activities cater to the children’s individual interests (in our son’s case, water play, sand and trucks) while also piquing their interest in new things. The activities also encourage connection with nature and local culture. I really love how they do things to give the kids something to look forward to - snow days, bringing in the local fire truck, puppet shows, marae visits, as well as more practical safety education like what to do in an earthquake and personal safety/body awareness. The kindy has a real community feel — it’s not just a drop-off, it’s a place where families are part of something meaningful. There’s a whanau group and Storypark where we get regular updates and stories, it’s great for keeping the grandparents who are overseas involved in what my son gets up to. It’s also particularly special knowing this kindy has been around for over 100 years! A true treasure in Grey Lynn. Highly recommend to any parent looking for a kind, inclusive, and enriching early learning experience.”

We were extremely particular about what we wanted out of a kindergarten (and not at all if we weren't happy) being that he was at the youngest end of the preschool age scale. We were extremely impressed by the calibre of teachers at the kindy and enrolled our son without hesitation. He looks foward to his two mornings there every week and it's a hard time getting him away again. The care the teachers- and other children show- is fantastic. We love the multi-cultural element and appreciation at the kindy and highly recommend it.”

As a mum of 5 with two rather picky girls in particular as well as nieces and nephews I've taken regularly to kindy, I've been through around 15 different kindergartens in Auckland - Hillsborough is only one of two that we will be sad to leave and will always recommend - staff are amazing and really were the difference between one of my kids making it through kindy then into school and me giving up and homeschooling. They have been so welcoming, warm and patient and I have enjoyed having two kids there over the last 2 years. Cannot recommend a kindergarten enough!”
