“Kilbirnie Park is a versatile and well-maintained green space in Wellington, perfect for both recreational activities and community events. The park boasts spacious fields that cater to a wide range of sports, including rugby, soccer, and cricket. These fields are regularly used by local clubs, schools, and casual players, making it a hub for sports enthusiasts of all ages. The park also includes an athletics track, which is ideal for runners and athletes looking to train. One of the standout features of Kilbirnie Park is its family-friendly environment. There’s a well-equipped playground that’s perfect for younger children, offering a safe and fun space for them to play. The park’s wide-open spaces also make it a great spot for picnics or leisurely walks. It’s dog-friendly, so many locals enjoy taking their pets for a stroll. The park’s location is very convenient, being close to Kilbirnie’s shopping area, bus routes, and other amenities. The nearby Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre is an added bonus for those looking to swim or relax after some outdoor activity. While the park is generally well-maintained, the fields can become a bit muddy during the rainy season. Overall, Kilbirnie Park is a fantastic community asset, offering something for everyone—whether you're there for sports, family time, or simply enjoying the outdoors.”
“For young and old a great turf, needs some southerly protection and covered seating for visitors who would like to come and watch”
“Great place for bring your kids to do some exercise, there are running area, playgrounds and even a maze! Clean n tidy area indeed.. lots of free parking area, clean toilet near the karori play center. But I think the maze area should be repainted. When blooming, really love to sit down in the bench under the pohutawa trees in the corner and enjoying the view”
“The food here is delicious and reasonable price. Wide open spaces and kid friendly environment.”
“Cheap parking, and central location to plenty of restaurants, bars and theatres. Best suited to small vehicles, quite tight parking, and narrow thoroughfare to navigate. Paying via the app is quicker and easier than waiting to pay via the only two pay machines on the ground level. Lifts service the various levels and there is a staircase too - if you have prams and kids it's probably safer to drop the whānau (family) off outside first.”
“Looks great and a great Park to enjoy with Whanau”
“Love this place. I have raced model power boats here for many years on the river, a great challenging piece of water.”
“I go there for hockey it is a very nice facility.”
“A nice little city park with quiet walking tracks, plenty of up and down hill. The view area above the water tank is a fantastic new addition and a great viewpoint.”
“A fantastic little book park. Well designed. Layout absolutely superb.”
“The ground is in the best state ever for Rugby.”
“A wonderful family park for outdoor for sports and picnics . A bit damp under foot in the winter but excellent in the summer ☀️”
“Went to this place 2ce last week with 17mth old moko. Clean tidy child friendly place with play equipment that moko enjoyed! Cool bike path area too! Seating all around too x”
“Awesome watching my moko play netball”
“Great place good to see sport back on the rise after trying times”
“Ki o Rahi tournament. Wainuiomata is just the best place in New Zealand!!”
“Great park for a family picnic. So close to children's playground, toilets and swimming pool”
“Great park for dog walking. More bins have been added, but still an awful lot of dog poo not picked up. The man that used to take care of the stream beams has passed away, hopefully the council will take care of this now.”
“Lovely wee park with a big history. This is the site of Broadcasting House, and although plans were already under way to have it demolished the building was destroyed by fire in September 1997 after 235 Radio New Zealand staff had moved to new premises in The Terrace in July 1997. Grand schemes to build a government "palace" on the site, or to shift the Beehive there, eventually fizzled and today the space is a sculpture park.”
“Great foresight to have these around.”
“Such a great place to get your Office / workshop fittings and furnishings -thanks for the Desks, shelving and cabinets -Appreciated your service Brian and Ellen”
“A minor fault but the microwave was stuck on child lock so couldn't be used. Did ask for help but no feed back about it. The hot water for a shower took about 5 mins to arrive so if you turn on the hot then go make a cup of tea it's just arriving when your done. Awesome being so close to everything though.”
“Like to take a walk around here and bring the dogs sometimes, can be peaceful, as long as there's no sport practices/games.”
“Park-TACULAR! A true destination for the locals. Old trees, rushing river sounds, playground options for all ages. Sport options include a halfpipe for skaters, a basketball court for netball and risk-taking rollerskaters, and even a BBQ for dad to flex his culinary talents. You'll also find a bicycle road with miniature street signs which is extremely adorable. Just don't walk through it after 2am - local legend has it that the Stokes Valley Golem comes out at night to grab unwary travellers!”
“Walk down birdwood street and you will see so many native pigeons ( kereru ) . My fav walk to town from Karori”
“Had a great time and met lots of other nice dog owners z Be aware though that there are no gates to this area. Would be a great improvement to make it secure so dogs don’t run into children’s play area, the car park…?”
“Great experience and service. We had an accident, where my child spilt coffee on himself. The girls working were quick to respond and get cold water and care for my boy, as well as get him a new ice cream that he dropped. Thank you so much for the extra effort and compassion girls.”
