The kitchen at The Turmeric Cuisine of India, Flaxmere takes a casual Indian path and lets the food speak. Sides like naan and rice tie the meal together. Front‑of‑house runs with calm, helpful energy. Portions are generous yet well judged.

“This place is amazing. Beautiful cuts of meat. They will easily personalise your order. We bought 2 lovely rolled lamb roast and they cut them both in half and vac sealed all four for us. They then seperated our sausages in packs of 4. All with a smile. This is like our 5th visit and we li e 1.5 hours away. Well worth a visit you will not be disappointed. Mauri ora Downey team.”

“While New Zealand's grocery stores are well stocked, here we found extraordinary offerings of high quality and reasonably priced foods, spices, sauces and more. Many are imported from the foods' country of origin: olives from Kalamata, Greece. Pasta from Italy. Etc. And some, like the organic breads for example, are produced locally. Not only are their foods fantastic, so is their staff. Smart. Responsive. Proud but eager. Striving. Friendly and welcoming.”

“I'm vision impaired and struggled to read their menu (Very small print with fancy font). It's very busy and I found it difficult to read what they had. It also says online that they make vegan Mac n cheese etc however when I asked they only had soups and fresh sandwiches, tacos etc. The chipotle taco, soup and sandwich I had on two separate occasions were delicious and the fact they cater for vegans and vegetarians is amazing. Seems alternative eating has gone backwards everytime I visit NZ however this place is amazing.”

“Tucked away down a side street, this place is a hidden gem - we were lucky to spot it. Fab array of gourmet retail goodies, and delicious deli treats. Ordered a (delicious) hot chocolate and cappuccino - and the custard donut was to die for! Highly recommend if you’re in the area.”
