“As a student who comes to this school and writes with a genuine opinion, to whoever is reading this, especially parents, I can confirm to you that the previous 1-star reviews are absolutely baloney. I am just a student. I am currently at Macleans college and been here for a couple of years hence sharing my general opinion. I AM NOT part of any school administration that writes the review because they are biased. Firstly I see these reviews talking about "racism". In the real life, of course its going to exist. Someone will always judge you based on the way you look. But it doesn't mean that it isn't dealt with at this school. There are serious consequences for racism so all aside, its not an issue here at Macleans. Im not a white student either, but I haven't seen 1 teacher at this school, of all I have ever talked to been racist ONCE, ever. Secondly, I see them talking about "They only care about academics." Well its partly true. Your child deserves quality education and the school wants them to be successful in life and if you're not willing to learn or at least give a damn about learning for your own good, then don't blame the school for it. Teachers here actually do a reasonable job at shaping students into successful academics and you also have house tutoring systems and more if you find learning the stuff hard. Ungrateful students who choose to post these bad reviews simply don't realise the plentiful resources they have to become a sucessful student. Now I know that not everyone likes studying. At times, me neither, but the school offers more than academic education. It aims to support a student's goals, and also opens SO much extracurriculars and sports activities if your child is intrested in sports. The reason why I said academic focus is "partly true" is that the school is simply looking for a lot more than just academic excellence. With the wide variety of extracurriculars it also helps students develop skills and become involved with activities they enjoy in the future. Uniform. Theres heaters in classrooms during winter and you have a sweater. Everything else very self-explanatory. Bullying. Yes, sadly, it happens. The bullying obviously comes from students who are either stressed about their life / have something going on in their lives or they're just a prick who seeks attention. I also consider the factor that the stress often comes from the way the school runs, as its harsh academic focus and other aspects can sometimes impact the students. It is NOT easily ignored. The amount of guidance from groups like consuelling etc will support you if you are bullied, and it will also be dealt very seriously by the school. The strict rules and conservative approach actually cut the amount of bullying in this school. I have personally seen many students get stood down or even removed from the school for being stupid. Actually, in my first few years I didn't get along with people either. I was also emotionally impacted by bullying. However, the school helped me become the person I am today through guidance and support. I wasn't an academic nor sporty person either. I hated both. But through reflection and growth I finally understood, the school was trying to help me. It never intended to harm me in any way. And do not say "the school doesn't care about you", that is the most untrue, pathetic, and ungrateful statement I've heard. There are school counselling for a reason. If you are to the point that you actually think the school doesn't care about you at all you need some serious self-reflection. Macleans does a great job at shaping the students so that they have maturity, responsibility, empathy and more. All this, is part of high school. It strives to help your child become sucessful in life and supports their dreams e.g sports and even esports/gaming (if thats what they really want). The “students” who are writing those 1-star reviews are the ones who either have something against this school and have the maturity of a 5-year-old or just don't care about school and hate it.”

“Our son has been a student at Mt Hobson for 5 years. He has excelled academically and socially, growing in confidence each year. The school has worked holistically to help him achieve his goals and beyond. He has a clear pathway to tertiary education which he can proudly say he has achieved himself. The school is his second family were he feels supported and nurtured. I can not thank the staff enough for the great job they have done and are doing as a team to help our son.”

“So far I have been at OJC since 2020. And over the past four years that I have been a student at OJC. I can say that it is a wonderful working environment, and it has quite a lot of opportunities that people can pursue. Clubs and Extra Curriculars like Chess Club, Filmmakers Club, you could even learn how to use softwares like Adobe Illustrator, Adobe After Effects and many more. MAC time is also an opportunity to form new friendships and bonds, however the only downside in my personal opinion is Badges but that’s all. I rate this school a 10/10.”

“Great class for under 6. My son loves his twice a week training and the coach is amazing. They mix training and play which the kids love. My son used to get upset when he loses a game but after joining jiujitsu he now understands that’s it’s okay to make mistakes and lose in a game, he would say ‘just try again’ ‘I’ll practice more’. The attitude has changed and the discipline is apparent. Thank you, Albany team!”

“Studio Move is the best place to learn dance! My daughter is now in her third year there, and it’s been incredible to see how much her skills and confidence have grown. The teachers genuinely care about the kids and create such a positive, friendly, and welcoming environment. We couldn’t ask for a better studio!”

“If you are considering doing Ballet as an adult, this is honestly the place to do it! They have so many different options for classes and I was so happy to find a studio that has the option of structured syllabus-style learning. The teachers are wonderful and make sure they know their students well so they can help progress them in a way that is unique to each individual. The community is very friendly and welcoming too. One of my favourite parts about dancing here is the annual show! We actually get to perform on a stage in a theatre with costumes and everything! It's optional of course, and we spend months preparing. Any one from any level is able to participate in it and it's an incredible journey to be apart of, and it's a time when the whole community is able to get together and support each other as it's no easy task, but one that is very rewarding in my opinion. All in all, I often find myself counting down the days until my next class. Cannot recommend DFLA enough!”

“My Son has been going to Educatum for Maths tuitions. This is the best tuition classes you can get in New Zealand. Foram knows the NZ curriculum well and is able to help students go through the curriculum in an orderly manner. Foram’s end of the year mock tests also ensure that students are prepared for the college exams on time. A definite plus for us was educatum prescribing using text books which greatly supports structured study. All other classes gave handouts during each session. My Sons interest, confidence and grades in mathematics have dramatically improved since he has joined Educatum.”

“Our child has been attending Kindercare Warkworth since they were 6 months old, they're just under 2 now and we can't speak more highly of our and their experience thus far. The Kaiako are friendly and loving, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming and they do so many interactive activities throughout the day, no matter the weather. It's also so nice to not have to worry about packing food as meals and snacks are all covered. We've watched our child go from strength to strength with their movement, confidence, speech and everything else. On the very rare occasion that there have been issues, they've been resolved promptly and professionally and we've been involved every step of the way. Michele and her team have helped get the kids back up to speed with the basics of Math's after all the missed schooling during COVID. Highly recommend Thinking Caps if your children are struggling. “What an amazing and fun experience! Highly recommend it, all staff are very professional and they makes you feel comfortable. They welcomed me with a huge smile and then it was time for a very accurate briefing, I could also choose the flight path and flyzone. Once ready to leave is time for a complete a pre flight check and explanation; petrol, oil, air vent, tires… Experience at 360 degrees! The weather was a bit windy but my instructor did an outstanding job, once in the air I could take control of the plane and fly the plane myself, I was so excited to speak with control centre as they made us aware of other planes in the area and diverted our flight path accordingly. 10/10 experience!”

“I'm Evelyn and I've had the utter delight and privilege of taking Levels One and Two with Juliet Furness this year, and I could not be more grateful. Her approach to teaching the art of acting is unique, insightful, surprising, playful and effective. The classes are more like master classes in what it means to be an authentic human being. I have felt empowered, invigorated and inspired by her classes. She makes everyone feel valued and included. She is enthusiastic, frank, generous and fully present with us. I felt quite bereft at the end of each term... missing my weekly fix of community, of risk taking, of growing as a human being and of feeling safe as well as challenged. I have signed up for Level Three now and I may well go back and do all three levels again next year. They each offer different gifts that complement each other, and some refreshingly different adjustments. Juliet's classes sneak up on you in the way they enhance your acting skills..... i am reminded of working with an Alexander technique body worker, who suggested that in my goal to achieve a straighter back and a more open ribcage I should forget about pulling my shoulders back and forcing myself into a more upright and military type posture because all this would achieve would be more muscular tension elsewhere. Instead she suggested i imagine a 'clavicle smile'.....simply imagining a friendly smile across my collar bone and this transformed my walk and my posture and Juliet achieves similar transformations that happen simply because one learns to get out of one's own way, allowing change to blossom naturally from within! So i think that summarises what Juliet's classes teach..... to trust one's own humanity. Rather than trying to impose some technique onto oneself.”

“My daughter started dancing here 4 years ago and has been absolutely amazing. Lenore and the team are the best collaboration of teachers and are a family that welcomed her in with open arms. She has made so many friends at the studio and extended her dancing immensely. Thanks Lenore, you're amazing :)”
