A fantastic day out for LOTR/Hobbit fans and fan-adjacent people (I am not a fan but went with my partner who is and had a great day). Our tour guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The set is incredibly well maintained. It does involve a decent amount of walking so bring water and sun protection if you go during the heat of the day. All of the tours were sold out the day we went so I think it is important to buy tickets in advance if you want to go.

A wonderful experience going through the set. Our guide was really helpful and informative. The set and the location are very scenic. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit especially the hobbit hole which is fantastic. Such detail. Highly recommended. Suggest visiting early or late in the day as there is no shade and it gets hot.

Hobbiton was amazing! Beware though, it books up months in advance, so definitely book way ahead of time. For the tour itself, the Shire is stunning - it has truly breathtaking landscapes and gardens. Our tour guide Mira was fantastic and provided a lot of great LOTR facts. The complimentary drink from The Green Dragon Inn was very tasty and you can buy bottled drinks from their gift shop exclusive to Hobbiton. We wanted to do the Evening Banquet Tour but it was booked up so we did the day tour which was still great. We got lunch at the cafe after which had lots of tasty options. Walking through the houses was also a very special treat since it’s only been open since 2023. Overall, we are so happy we got to experience this!

We finally got around to visiting Hobbiton this week and it was well worth the wait and we were very lucky that we had a perfect weather day for it. We were blown away by the whole experience. from arrival in the carpark which is so well laid out, to our departure with Ice Creams in hand, we had a fabulous time. We arrived early, unusual for us, and I'm so glad we did. Check in was easy, no queue. We could relax and enjoy a fabulous meal in the cafe, very generous portions of ingredients in our burger and toastie, while taking in the views of the farmland beyond and soaking up the general happy vibe. We were first in line for our tour, but ended up going on the tour before ours as they had a few spare seats. The tour was fantastic, we enjoyed the video introduction and info about the farm and partnership, while enjoying seeing the rolling green pasture and farm animals outside. Our tour guide was fun and informative, and we progressed at a comfortable pace past the hobbit holes, with plenty of time for photographs and questions. We enjoyed a ginger beer and cider at the Green Dragon Inn before re-joining our guide for the return bus ride. Hobbiton is a magical place, the attention to detail is incredible and we are now inspired to watch the trilogies again.

We visited the Hobbiton movie set in November 2025, and what a great experience it was. We are not huge fans, but I have read the LOTR and Hobbit books, and we both saw the movies, so lots of places and stories felt familiar. Most of the Hobbit holes have been built after the movie shooting was done, and there is ongoing construction to build even more. Being here in spring was perfect, so many flowers and lovely weather. Upon arriving at the visitor center, you need to check in at the ticket booth (we had make online reservations) and then stand in line for your tour - they leave every 10 min. There are bathrooms and a cafe if you arrive early. The group then boards a bus, which drives about 10 min through green hills with sheep, while you get to see some movie clips. Then the group will be taken on a 1.5h walk through the outdoor set, which leads you alongside many hobbit holes. Noelle, our guide, did a great job explaining details about which scene was taken where, which artifacts were real or fake, etc. The attention to detail was stunning; most hobbit homes have a theme, so you can guess what the owners do for a living (bee keeping, fisherman, etc.). We even got to visit one of the homes from the inside, which was the highlight of the tour for me. The home had lots of rooms, including bedrooms for the children, a cat bed, recipe books, a pot of boiling water, and lovely decorated china with leftover cake or cheese. Those hobbits love to eat! At the end of the tour, we all got a complimentary (non-alcoholic) ginger beer or 'real' beer from a local brewery (other drinks also available), before we walked back to the bus. Highly recommended!

Must visit! Grounds are stunning. The tour and the guide were great. There was plenty of time at each location - no need to stress about tours starting every 10 minutes. Sam’s house is currently under construction, but I didn’t find that to take away anything from the set. There’s one house you can step into to take a picture. We booked about 3-4 months in advance for a mid-August trip - dress warm.

Very cool experience with a super nice, friendly, knowledgeable guide. Was worth it! You board a bus from the parking lot and take a short drive over to the movie set. A guide will lead you around the set, plenty of opportunities for photos. Easy walk. We were lucky to go on an absolutely beautiful day which definitely added to the experience. They are doing construction but it does not detract from the experience at all. The tour ends with a beer at the Green Dragon. Loved it!

The stunning view offered by the movie set is undoubtedly a great scenery to enjoy, even for a visitor like me with little knowledge about the movies. Unfortunately, the experience wasn’t as great as the scenery offered. During my visit, each tour (about 50 people) enters the movie set every 10 minutes. The movie set was constantly flooded with people and pushing my group forward, and therefore I did not have much chance to enjoy the scenery nor take much photos. If you are a huge fan of the movie series, I think the movie set is still something worth visiting. But if you are just looking for a relaxing day to spend your time in New Zealand, I can hardly recommend the movie set for this kind of experience.

Joel picked us up early morning at our Hotel. He shared so much history of the movie set. He is knowledgeable and funny and made our trip very memorable. For individuals with disabilities in our group, he was considerate of their needs and tried his best to make the visit a great experience. My family loved the props he had at the ready to be used for photos. I definitely recommend this tour, just wish we had booked a longer tour, i really wanted to take more time to enjoy the scenery and would love to walk in the forest.

Such an amazing place. The amount of detail in this set is immense. I'd definitely recommend booking on a tour around the village. They're currently building some hobbit houses you can go inside, including Sam's house. The tour we went on included a lunch in the marquee by the Green dragon, which you get a complimentary drink in (stout, water or ginger ale). The buffet lunch gave a wide range of choices and there was a large desert selection as well. Even the toilets were designed like a hobbit hole. Tour guides were also very informative and helpful throughout the entire tour.
