   I first visited this place 5 years ago, but I just realized I haven’t left a review for this hidden gem. It’s always my first choice whenever my Chinese stomach craves good food. The dishes are always fresh and delicious. The boss, who is also the chef, often comes out to chat with customers and listen to their feedback. Last week, I ordered a seafood noodle for my daughter. Since we had just recovered from a stomach ache, I asked the staff to make it less salty. The noodles came out exactly as we expected — light, comforting, and tasting just like homemade food. I truly love this place — from the food to the staff, even the cozy decoration. Highly recommended!

   Have been here a few times. The main dishes are fairly consistent in quality. Have had mix experienced with the white rice (from badly cooked to perfect). Can get quite busy and recommend dining outside the main peak hours. On this ocassion staff and food (pork hock and pickled fish) was good.

   Just wow! the dumplings are the best in New Zealand, literally! Full of flavour, outer wrapping cooked to perfection, spices and herbs mix so well I didnt think possible out of China, that's just my food! My wife had the dumping soup, "its impossible, it has such a fresh and well balanced flavour! The mains is a beautifully crafted, both in taste and presentation. Fully worth the a visit and definitely worth seconds if not more! Definitely my new favourite restaurant.

   生煎包 is highly recommended, good taste. Would appreciate if they could advise the portion of dishes when customer placing the order. Portion is big, we order too much that couldn’t finish. Overall dining experience is good.

   Just walked off the street to try this place. The ordering system is all done on an IPad, and I didn't know how to use it. The young guy said that he would order for us. By the time we ordered, we got the young lady who was not as helpful until I advised the above. Food was tasty and good-sized portions. I would go again. It would be nice to have an English menu so we know what the dishes are and what is in them.

   We were lucky to have a table without booking. Ordering food on iPad is much easier. The decorations are old-fashion Chinese style which is very nice. Food is delicious, staff are friendly and my daughter loves her cute kids plates. BBQ lamb is really good, especially the seasoning. But if you don’t like spicy,make sure you tell the chef.

   Did not feel welcomed, inconsiderate staff and overall the place and the staff brought our group’s whole mood down when we’re suppose to be celebrating a very special birthday for a 4 year old girl. Seen by the time I have written, went home and put this up tonight, Shanghai bistro is not even closed yet as stated in their 10pm closing time. They began cleaning and vacuuming at 9:00pm as soon as all of our food arrived. We have asked them to stop vacuuming since we were still eating. We would have thought they got a hint of how impolite it was. They then proceeded to mop using bleach right beside our table as we were eating. Not only was it a tripping hazard for the customers and children that were there but it was a chemical hazard aswell as most of the people in our group began feeling light headed from the chemicals we were exposed to. We basically paid to have dinner while smelling bleach.
