   After watching the YouTube intro for this restaurant, I was super excited to try it, especially the char siu. I had the Manuka char siu at Timaru Canjoy before, and it was unforgettable. Here, the portion sizes are generous, but the flavor just doesn't make the cut. The char siu was really dry, and its bright red color seemed way too unnatural—definitely looks like they used food coloring. The whole plate felt like it was just microwaved before serving. What a disappointment!

   5 of us were dining. We chose 6 different dishes, and all 6 were absolutely beautiful. Joyful would be the most enjoyable Chinese restaurant I have ever been to. The sweet and sour chicken was the best I have ever had. The Peking Duck wraps were so delicious also. I recommend to book a table, as it is so very popular.

   Outstanding Chinese restaurant. My favorite restaurant in 2025. No matter how busy the restaurant it gets, the food is always great. 宫保鸡丁kung Pao Chicken surprised me. So good! And they have the best Swiss roll in Christchurch.

   Went with a group and got the set menu. All the dishes were really delicious, and portions were generous. The dumplings, crispy skin chicken, and sweet and sour pork were particularly good. Service was fast, friendly, and attentive. Will definitely go back.

   Ate here for our parents' anniversary! Make sure you book as they get very busy specially during weekends. They serve a little late but that is totally understood because there were really so many people dining. Their cake section was amazing and commendable as well. I have previously had a bad experience with Chinese food before so I'm quite careful but Joyful Restaurant really delivered here. Awesome experience and will definitely be back in the future :)
