Stayed at Rydges recently and unfortunately the experience did not feel worth the price paid. While the room was clean, tidy, and well maintained, there were several issues that affected the stay. The water pressure was very low, parking around the hotel was difficult to find, and noise from the hallway and neighbouring rooms could be clearly heard, including conversations. Overall, it was not the comfortable or relaxing experience expected at this price point.

This is the first hotel I've stayed at in South Island in a fortnight that I have been really disappointed with! From the very start the reception staff came across unwilling to assist, and unwelcoming, so much so I felt I was being made to feel I was the one that was lucky to be staying there. The room was small and dated tho listed as executive. Was very glad I was solo. It was clean. Curtains struggled to block daylight. Strange floor based ac was very noisy even on lowest setting which was needed in airless room. Shower water not contained in cubicle. Pool was ok tho sauna didn't work. Breakfast buffet had lids (not hinged) on pots which is awkward when you have a plate in one hand and are trying to manage lid and tongs in the other. Good location to wharf precinct. Obviously I won't be back and won't recommend.

Perfecto. Staff were awesome. Some noise inside by inconsiderate guests arriving late at night but no noise from outside at all. Location perfect, we flew at 6am. Have stayed probably 4 or 5 x now and have already rebooked for my next trip.

Swanky room but our hopes for laundry were dashed at the $5/pair of socks pricing. We were also not permitted to pay for our vehicle to remain in the valet parking for a further few hours after check-out, which doesn't seem like a large ask for such an upscale establishment. Nice pool and hot-tub but the sauna directions were a mystery. Located a nice 20m walk from downtown and right beside the ferry though.

Just checked into a room on the 14th floor - here for a week for work. 5 months ago I was here again on work and wrote a miserable review (1 star). Today I am pleased to say things have much improved with the room standard and the friendly, helpful service at concierge. I have deleted that review and replacing it with this. Confidence is restored and I will recommend it again. Well done !

Stayed here in the weekend last week the front entrance into the hotel on the right is the restaurant and bar which was very alive when we checked in on a Friday The floor we were on (level 6) was quite noisy our neighbours next door and across had parties Friday and Saturday which was frustrating as it went into the early hours of the morning I’m guessing the walls are not sound proof enough to block out screaming and loud music The bathroom was very nice auto light for those late night toilet trips which was a nice feature the body wash and shampoo provided smelt so good would rate the items 10/10 our bin was not emptied out when we requested for room service though apart from that I would say the only thing kids would enjoy here is the swimming pool. Air con was quite outdated and noisy when turned on it did the trick which is all that mattered I’ll have to stay here again to change my review as the rooms were nice as well as the front desk clerks the 3 star is due to the amount of parties going on that shouldn’t be allowed when people just want to get a good nights sleep

Had an amazing stay! The room is great, has everything you need. Beautiful view of the harbour. Amazing and diverse brekafast options! Love the pool, sauna and spa, definetly a plus. The bed is so comfy I could be there all day. I'll definetly come back.

Thought I'd try staying here instead of the Hilton where I usually stay as I make regular trips to Wellington. The Rydges advertise that they have parking available but they actually do not have any parking spaces reserved for their guests. Beware when trying to stay here with a vehicle as you are not guaranteed a park unlike at the Hilton. The employees were very unhelpful and were not willing to rectify the fact that we had to pay for on street parking and move our car every two hours. The fan in the bathroom didn't work and considering the price we paid it was pretty rubbish that the toilet paper was one ply. The air conditioner/heating unit is probably older than I am and was incredibly loud so we couldn't have it on at night when we were trying to sleep. We were told by the restaurant staff that coffees were included with the breakfast buffet but then we were asked to pay for them when we checked out. Honestly the service here was pretty appalling and certainly not what I would expect for the price. Will definitely not be staying here again.

Front desk young man working on Saturday evening was very pleasant and helpful. Rooms were tidy and well maintained. Breakfast buffet was worth every cent. Location in CBD ideal. Parking for guests on site needs attention albeit they had public parking only a 2min walk around the corner. Definitely book rooms here again

Definitely not worth the cost! Great location but desperately needs new management and staff that actually care about a traveler's experience. Our room was grubby --- fridge not cleaned out -- the phone was not connected and the TV didn't work well. The reception staff were clearly not interested in these concerns. We got a perfunctory "sorry about that." The only reason I didn't give this place a 1 is that the lap pool was great. So nice to have a hotel pool that you can actually swim in! We dined once at the restaurant. The food was good but dinner took over an hour to get as the waiter forgot to put in our order. When the error was discovered, the manager came over and apologized but clearly the kitchen didn't expedite our order as we waited another 30 minutes as we watched whole tables order and be served. For our troubles, they comped us a glass of wine each. Honestly, they should have comped the whole meal. Breakfast was just OK -- nothing special.
