Nicely located hotel that purports to be 5 star but lacks in a few key areas. On the positive side the staff at reception and the concierge and valet were friendly and professional. They made us feel welcome. The valet service is quick and efficient. The cleaning staff are great. They do a nice job tidying up the room without disturbing things that shouldn't be. The room itself is nicely appointed with good quality furniture and fittings although I saw signs of poor maintenance for example the tap in the bathroom sink was super stiff and the tiles and grout around the tub were misaligned. The suite itself was nicely sized and the air conditioning worked well. The linen was clean and crisp and the bed was comfortable but the pillows were a bit lumpy. The bedside tables lacked USB charging but the lamps were good. The two TVs were modern but had been prevented from connecting to the internet so Netflix and Prime needed a workaround. I had to use my phone as a hotspot and connect the TV to my phone's internet which was using the hotel's wi-fi. It all worked so I'm not sure who in the hotel's management made the decision not to connect the TVs to the internet directly. The hotel WiFi itself worked great. Another annoying feature was the mini bar. The tiny fridge was completely full of stuff the hotel was trying to sell. I never use stuff in mini bars. I don't snack on junk food and am not tempted by other peoples' choices. I find mini bars to be low rent and annoying. The better hotels have done away with them. The room lacked any complimentary water and the 150ml milk carton in the fridge suggested a milk crisis. To be breakfast is very important so I'll try to be a little more descriptive. In my view the food and service was at the level of a 2 star hotel. The only positive was linen tablecloth and decent cutlery. They didn't offer tea or coffee. We had to make tea ourselves with teabags and tepid water from a thermos flask. I had to ask for hot water because our first cups were not drinkable. The food on offer was even worse. I understand when a smaller establishment does not offer a big spread but it has to be top quality. This was very hit and miss. There was no bircher muesli or overnight oats, just one muesli mix, albeit of reasonable quality, and Weetabix. The cheese, ham and salami on the cold cuts platter lacked taste and texture. The sourdough bread was good and the croissants were OK but only strawberry jam, orange marmalade and Marmite were on offer. The hot food was pretty poor. We asked for an omelette but were told we could only have poached or fried eggs. The bacon was decent but the beans were completely bland and tasteless and seemed like they had come out of a can with a side trip to the microwave. The breakfast suggests that the people who manage this hotel are not quite sure what the hotel is supposed to be or represent. If a hotel wants to be considered in the luxury category it cannot compromise on breakfast. At minimum it needs a selection of artisan breads and pastries, top quality jam, freshly squeezed juice, and top shelf muesli, fruit and cheeses. The same goes for any hot food. Overall we don't regret staying here. It is nice enough and very comfortable and clean and the staff are lovely but it could and should have been better.

The Bolton is a family run hotel. I stayed here for two nights on business. The staff are friendly and very helpful. I found that the room I had a little "ordinary" but functional. Plenty of space with a small kitchenette with a small dishwasher, hob and fridge. My room did smell of previous cooking which hit you as soon as you walked in. I liked the bathroom with the large shower cubical and lots of space. WATCHOUT! If you drink the water from the bottles in the fridge which are in light blue plastic containers, you will be charged shy of 8 buck!!! A rip off for water. The bottles label crow on about sustainability, reusability and all the other virtue signals that are supposed to make us feel all fuzzy and fluffy however the hotel are just stretching it slightly with the price... Yes you can drink from the tap, which the hotel like to tell you when you complain about the cost of the bottled water, if thats the case don't sell the water! I've written too much in the subject of the rip off water. The hotel is comfortable , close to the town and the harbour, and I would recommend.

It was an amazing final stop on North Island, we travelled by car from Auckland. Fully equipped room incl washing and drying machine, was a bless. Fully equipped kitchen if you'd like to cook during holiday time. Breakfast has some options however there's no coffee machine or veggie options. It's really close to historical/government city part.

The Bolton is very nice but the atmosphere is a little stuffy. A Porche seemed to be permanently parked in the entrance way, to indicate what I dont know, gave a touch of new-money James Spader as 80s successful stockbroker vibes, someone said its on loan. Valet parking people and receptionist were really lovely. In morning we went to breakfast and although there was a heap of bustling well-dressed staff in an almost empty room no one said good morning or asked us if we would like a coffee etc to break the ice, no coffee mugs either... was all very awkward and could have been more welcoming. The breakfast though was amazing and the highlight of the visit. In the pricey suite we booked there was a woeful lack of extras, and we had more condiments available to us in a very modest motel we stayed in the night before including cookies and a full size bag of coffee grounds, at the Bolton there was not even a complimentary sachet of washing powder for the washing machine which we actually needed to use and couldn't, so a few extras yes would have been welcomed and a nice touch for the price charged. There was not even milk. The thermostat was impossible to operate and the room had very little airflow. A couple of nice light blankets for the bed would be nicer than an enormous yeti blanket too. After reading Pauls feedback, its the little, practical things that were missing amongst the luxury or in little supply - such as milk for coffee, washing powder that was easy to find (it wasn't) or a complimentary welcome snack on arrival after a day travelling that were absent after scouring cupboards and fridge where we found nothing. We shouldn't have to call housekeeping to get milk....

Loved our stay at the Bolton hotel. Is a bit tricky to get to if you drive your own car as driving in the city is confusing but google maps helped. Loved the service and loved the view, will definitely be back there again

I recently stayed at the Bolton for one-night and I encountered a mix of positive and negative aspects that influenced my overall assessment. The bed provided an exceptional level of comfort and the room itself boasted a generous size. It is also in walking distance of many of Wellington's amazing attractions with plenty to do within 10 minutes walking distance. Regrettably, I must express disappointment regarding two key areas. Firstly, my experience on the second floor was marred by an unfortunate disturbance. My morning was abruptly disrupted by the noise and vibrations from the washing machines adjacent to my room. I was woken up around 8am and the noise and movement of my bed prevented me from being able to go back to sleep. Secondly, the room service breakfast, although satisfactory, failed to meet the elevated standards typically associated with a luxury establishment. I got the big breakfast option. Considering these factors, I am inclined to assign a rating of 3 stars to this hotel. Improvements in breakfast quality and addressing the noise issue would undoubtedly contribute to a more satisfactory guest experience, aligning the establishment with the desired 5-star distinction. I would advise that anyone who stays here ensures they are not staying on level two and suggest that they explore Wellington and eat outside of the hotel, especially for breakfast.

Not sure this should be a 5 star rated hotel. Over $900 for a 2 bed for 2 nights.. dated fit out, stench in the room, crusty towels, terrible pillows, shower head that needed to be replaced. It wasn’t awful.. but I wouldn’t stay there again

Nice and closy place to stay. Plenty of space in our room. Handy short walk to access everything we need. We swam and spa every night during our stay. The TV didn't work due to previous sprinkles issue.
