Amazing location, friendly staff, but.... It was like staying in a oven. A fan that blew the heat around, and could hardly breathe. Hair all over the blankets... Not clean at all...
This is a 3 star hotel at the budget end of the market, so you should apply expectations accordingly, however... It exceeded mine! I stayed one night as part of driving from Christchurch to Auckland, all needed was a comfortable bed and good location, with a 24 hour check in as I arrived late and left early. The hotel is old and dated, but clean and quiet, the bed was fantastically comfortable. For facilities you get exactly what you need and no more, but that's what wanted. Location is superb, especially as I needed to pop out for late night snack. Oriental Bay, Te Papa and Courtney Place are a stones throw away. The driveway up to the car park is tight, especially in a ute, but you can drive around via the road, which I did once I realised. Overall, for a budget hotel, it's awesome.
Although some people might have different experiences, I liked this hotel. Fantastic view, clean and one of the best showers for tall people I’ve ever had in a hotel. And this all from 5 min walking to te Papa museum. Yes, the bathroom could be modernised and the windows can’t always keep the wind outside but I think it is the price/quality certainly worth.
This was a lovely place to stay even though it is quite old. Bed was beautiful and staff were lovely. We didn't eat there but the location is good for other restaurants and places of interest. Would definitely stay again.
Didn't stay, but had dinner at their restaurant, food was excellent, tasty, well priced. Service was also excellent. Apple Crepes desert was awesome!!
GREAT place to stay being close to Te Papa and the Sunday markets. I have stayed here every time I come to Wellington for exhibitions at Te Papa. Only a 5 min walk, or $6 cab ride if raining. However as much as I love staying here, it does need an update - shower very old and a microwave in the unit would be a big plus.
Breakfast wasn't freshly cooked unless you were early. Dinner wasn't available due to lack of chefs. Very disappointed as we had stayed before and was a lot better. Great location easy to walk to eateries and cafés.
What we enjoyed about the Hotel: - Great location! It’s a 5min walk to Courtenay Place where there’s plenty of restaurants and bars to check out - Staff are friendly (front of house & house keeping) - They gave us complimentary check out till 11am - Room was spacious and beds were comfortable - They allow storage of suitcases for free after checkout while we continue to explore the city What could have made it a 4-5 star hotel: - The hotel is very dated and could do with a bit of upgrade in the rooms - Lifts are small. There might be a bit of a wait as can only fit 2 people with their luggage in there. A couple squeezed in with their luggage while 2 of us were already in there and it wasn’t pleasant. - No air conditioning in the rooms. We had to close our curtains before we left our room so that when we returned it wasn’t as hot because the fans didn’t really do much - Bathroom shower is like a cubicle, can be a bit claustrophobic as there’s no air vent above the shower - The air vent in the bathroom was above the toilet but the dust on there was thick - The walls are thin you can hear peoples TV when you come out of the lift
My stay at Bay Plaza Hotel was pleasant. They gave me a good price, a clean comfortable room. Scarlett guided me patiently through the booking. Location is the best part, everything at walking range. Might be not great, for someone who has a sensitive sleep. But otherwise, I have had no trouble with my stay. 24hrs reception help available. Would definitely recommend.
