Everything was superb! We did find however, Barneby was not really the best waiter. I mean he knew his stuff and seemed very efficient but was not that friendly and behaved rudely in some actions unintentionally I suspect, eg reaching in front of us abruptly to pick up a empty glass, firstly, without asking if we had finished, even if to warn us he was picking up a glass. Instead this arm came flying dangerously close to us, without warning, scaring the bejesus out of us! You couldn't joke with him either! We almost felt he thought he was better than us? So overall socially inept. Perhaps he is on the spectrum? Having said that, every other person working there was outstanding and super friendly. The food was up there with the best food ive ever eaten. Dear friends of mine(who have now passed) Peter and Joan Dean, told me about this guy Rex Morgan, who they were very close too, was the chef here and advised me to try it. It took many years for us to get there, but have no regrets and I will be back for sure. Thank you for this beautiful little place in the big smoke xx

Very classic atmosphere. Also the service. The $25 T-bone steak was a GREAT deal. Especially with the onion soup. The waitress was so nice. Separated the soup into two so we both can tried it. We got the roasted broccolini too! Love the decorations. The only thing is a bit noisy. Otherwise everything was perfect!

Beautiful villa restaurant tucked in between two high rise buildings. Came for WoW and absolutely loved the service, the staff were interesting in talking to us and very friendly. The food was exceptional - one of us had the set menu for WoW and two ordered off the menu (love that option).

A polished, well-run establishment that largely meets expectations, but doesnโt quite justify its price point. Service was competent and the experience smooth, yet I hoped for an extra sparkโtableside touches or a distinctive signature elementโto make it feel special. The food was solid overall. The octopus would have benefited from a more assertive sear on the exterior, while both the lamb and venison could have delivered bolder, more pronounced flavors. Good, not greatโreliable for a pleasant night out, but lacking the memorable highlights youโd expect at this cost.

Amazing food lovely atmosphere everyone was friendly especially the brother who made a coffee shots in his machine kept us up on the drive back to Auckland. Food was great especially the steak and lamb shank. Would highly recommend dinning in Wellington.

We had one evening in Wellington and we were fortunate in choosing to eat at the Boulcott Street Bistro. Our waitress, Audrey, was one of the best weโve had eating in restaurants on four continents. Audrey had an infectious lovely attitude and made a brilliant wine recommendation from her home town of Martinborough. We started with the octopus as our entree, then My wife had the Lamb Shank and I had the Duck Confit. The food was excellent! Our only regret is that the Bistro isnโt closer to home so we can enjoy it more often then this one trip.

Absolutely appalling experience from a restaurant I used to adore and frequent once a month until I moved away from Wellington last October 2022. My son and I ordered what we always ordered. Beef fillet for myself, and duck confit for my son with side plates of cauliflower gratin and brussel sprouts with feta. The brussel sprouts were so overly cooked, it was hard to chew and tasted like rubber. Could not and did not want to finish it. The bread that came with our mains was so badly burnt, it was charred black. We were planning at the beginning to order mains and dessert, but upon complaining about the food, the waiter informed us that he would fix the issues immediately, and never came back to us. We decided to go elsewhere for dessert. A total waste of $170 that left us literally with a bad taste in our mouths. I will never come back to this establishment, and will never recommend this restaurant again as a good place to eat. Bad food, bad waiter for not doing what he said he would. My rating, 2 out of 10. And that's because the wine was nice.

After reading through a few lists of "Wellington's best restaurants" online, I spotted Boulcott Street Bistro being mentioned in most, if not all of the lists, so it was an obvious pick for me to try out. Seated at the bar, Sam the bartender whipped up a really delicious rosebud cocktail and made me feel very welcome. I couldn't fault the service for the evening. The french onion soup was moreish, and while the fish was a bit overcooked, the aubergine caponata made the dish. I'd be keen to come back and find out all the raves about the steak here.
