Great coffee. Good having a choice between going up stairs or down stairs. I liked the ambient piano music in the background. The deck at the top is superb. The chairs are really comfortable and the interior looks really nice. I hope everyone else will be happy with their experience from now on. Keep up the good work, though I only had a coffee here, I can't Judge on the meals.

DO NOT BOOK FOR FUNCTIONS!! A review has already been made for the engagement party I attended yesterday so I will primarily address venue’s response. 1. The venue lied that the event was booked for 40 people - it was not. It was booked for “around 60 people” which the venue confirmed and 65 attended. 2. “Some members of the group were intoxicated”. If this occurs in ANY semi acceptable venue the individual would not be served further alcohol or they would be asked to leave. Instead, the manager advised that bar service was ceased immediately for ALL patrons. I highly doubt any individual was able to get intoxicated - the wait time at the bar was 15 to 20 minutes. 3. “We have some limitations with serving alcohol without food”. I note that a significant volume of food was paid for in advance and this is a RESTAURANT where additional food is supposed to be available for purchase. Furthermore, the food was put out extremely late when it was requested to be served at specific times. The venue itself is run down and dirty. The photos on the website are old. The staff were generally incompetent and the bar staff’s attitude was rude and unwelcoming. TERRIBLE management - I cannot stress this enough! Heavily understaffed, poor time management and clearly did not bother to read the email stating that the booking was for around 60 people. The venue was not set up as it was supposed to be. On arrival, no one was even at the restaurant. Myself and two other guests had to remove the tables and chairs and put them downstairs. Note to management: Read your reviews. Read your emails. Don’t respond to reviews with lies. There is no excuse for ruining an engagement party, which is a once in a lifetime event, because of your severe incompetence and unprofessionalism. I have no idea how or why this place is still open. For the love of god, please get new management or sell this restaurant to someone who can actually operate it because the venue itself has potential.

I went on a Thursday night for the $18 steak deal. Was yummy and worth coming for this deal on a Thursday. The dessert was very yummy, only negative was cookie on the side was slightly stale so didn't eat that. Overall good food and lovely staff.

Went in for lunch, ordered 2x kids meals (mini hot dogs and nuggets)which came with 2x mini hot dogs and 5 nuggets, 2x loaded wedges and a burger. The kids meals were smaller than what would be expected for kids size and came with a surprise side salad, which had some kind of dressing that leaked over the plate and onto the nuggets. Surprisingly the kids didn’t eat those. The chips were so over cooked that most of them were see through, the potato replaced with grease, totally inedible for toddlers. The burger patty was overcooked to the point it was charred black, dry and stiff as a board. The loaded wedges themselves could’ve been salvageable if it weren’t for the 2 intact pieces of flaccid streaky bacon slapped on top, stinking of old grease which seeped down into the wedges, tainting the entire dish. Everything was tainted with the taste and smell of old oil and grease. For food that is clearly been frozen at some point in the near past it was shockingly bad, never mind the price point which screamed “this food is so expensive it better be bloody delicious”. 10/10 would not recommend. Ever. To anyone. Pictures show the amount of chips left after the grease sticks had been removed.

This has to be one of the most over priced meals I have ever paid for. I requested a 250 gram rump steak cooked medium rare and it should of come with salad and chips. I also brought a seafood chowder that had no seafood in the chowder. It was the worst meal I have ever had in Christchurch. The steak was like chewing 10 year old chewing gum. It was cooked weldone and the salad was absolutely crap. Presentation was like they just took a dump on the plate. The chowder tasted like you were eating sand. I couldn't even eat the chowder and it was a great disappointment. I also brought 2 real fruit ice creams, and the staff had no hygiene rules in place and went from cleaning up to holding the cone with their bare hands and making the ice cream. We were absolutely disappointed in the food and services. Also the tables were never wiped down and even after we requested it to be wiped, it was like they just moved the dirt around the table. I would highly recommend you give this place a miss. I spent close to $90 and feel very ripped off now.

Really nice atmosphere, very neutral but lot with candles with a beautiful view. Warm, friendly and attentive staff. Great ribs! $20 for a full meal, and a pint! Incredible. Weds Thurs Friday $20 meals, and also good balanced but simple menu offering some really good, classic food. Definitely worth bringing a couple of mates, a date, or the family! Highly recommended.

Salt on the Pier in Christchurch offers a diverse menu with options like beef steak, lamb shank, salmon, spaghetti bolognese, and cheesecake. The beef steak was cooked to perfection, with a delightful medium-rare tenderness that satisfied our palates. The salmon was equally impressive, boasting a succulent texture and a flavorful seasoning that elevated the dish. However, we encountered an issue with the lamb shank, as it turned out to be disappointingly dry. Thankfully, the attentive staff promptly addressed our concern and replaced it. This demonstrates their commitment to ensuring a positive dining experience. The overall environment at Salt on the Pier is pleasant, providing a welcoming atmosphere that adds to the enjoyment of the meal. The service was commendable, with the staff being attentive and accommodating. To conclude, while the dry lamb shank was a hiccup in our experience, the excellent beef steak, flavorful salmon, and the attentive service compensate for it. Salt on the Pier remains a worthwhile dining destination in Christchurch, offering a variety of delicious options in a pleasant setting.

Super surprised at the quality of the food. Salt and Pepper Calamari was light and flavourful, fried perfectly. Ditto with the Peri Peri Chicken. Crumbed and seasoned beautifully and rhe chicken was perfectly cooked. The side salads had a beautiful mint and sweet dressing that was so refreshing, I actually wanted more salad, and that never happens. Top service to boot, great little café. Won't be my last visit that's for sure.
