Wow wow wow! Thanks for an amazing evening! Service 10/10, lamb shoulder 10/10, and really delicious sides such as the potatoes, cucumber salad, and mushrooms. The portions were also big, the lamb could easily have been shared among three people. The only thing we agreed wasn’t great was the watermelon tartare, it tasted almost like taco salsa? We would have preferred it to be fresher with lots of lime. But other than that, we were super happy and will definitely come back!

Myself and partner dined last night through first table and from the beginning felt welcomed and truly looked after by friendly and attentive staff. The food was beautiful and well presented, cocktails delicious and beautifully crafted. Quality dining experience.

I have lived in Christchurch for seven years, but this was by far my worst dining experience — at The Monday Room. Apart from the unfresh salmon, overcooked beef cheek, and overly salty flavours (which were simply not to our taste), what disappointed us most was the attitude of one waitress (blonde hair, working on 18 Oct 2025). Her arrogance really damaged the restaurant’s reputation. After my friend and I decided not to order any dessert and went to pay (because we didn’t enjoy the dishes), the waitress asked, “Are you going to Duck Island for dessert?” We politely said yes, as the newly opened ice cream shop has a good reputation. Unexpectedly, she responded, “Oh no… it’s awful having an ice cream store next to our restaurant.” We were honestly shocked. In our opinion, a professional staff member could have invited us to try the restaurant’s own desserts next time, or recommended other dishes — not complain about a neighbouring business in front of customers. It made the situation quite awkward and uncomfortable. I can understand if the restaurant chooses not to serve their best dishes for customers dining with a First Table discount (although no one asked them to join that promotion), but that should never be an excuse for poor service or for staff to complain about customers’ choices.

We have been to The Monday Room multiple times and every time we go out to dinner, we find ourselves returning here. The food is simply out-of-this-world delicious, and we've never been disappointed with a single dish. A highlight this time around was the fried oyster mushrooms with smoked maple and chilli glaze - I could eat a serving bowl full of them! But there really is no going wrong with any dish on this sophisticated, elegant and mouthwatering menu. It is a tad pricey, so we tend to reserve our visits here for special occasions. But it is undoubtedly one of the top restaurants in Christchurch and well worth a visit.

Entrees and mains were delicious. What we liked : tender Beef cheeks & pork belly, delicious buttermilk sauce on the fish, crispy fried mushrooms. The only dish we felt could be improved is the duck fat potatoes. Service was attentive and approachable. Would recommend checking them out when you’re in the area!

Very good experience…service, ambience and food were top notch….I’m a recognised fussy eater so choosing the “trust the chef” option was undertaken with some trepidation, but it was very very good….I wouldn’t choose every dish on their own, but I enjoyed each one of them, so thank you Monday Room for making a very enjoyable evening

Went there for a dinner and opted for “Trust the Chef”. Food was good but not exceptional. I liked the vegetables in particular. Was just surprised that “Trust the Chef” does not include a dessert to complement the meal - we were given the dessert menu after all the courses were served to decide on our dessert. Service was all right. Atmosphere was okay as well. Would usually like a bit more light when having a meal. I’m not a person who likes jazz so I won’t comment on the music - but I think it’ll be nice for people who like that music genre.

This was an outstanding experience. From the food to the staff, an entirely enjoyable dining experience. Our host, Ryan, was welcoming and knowledgeable ready to help with accommodating us in a busy restaurant with an intimate understanding of all the menus and refreshment options available. At the bar James was constantly making incredible cocktails. My wife and I shared a cured king fish starter followed by the brazed lamb shoulder with the beef fried potatoes and cos salad. This turned out to be a delicious journey with a light and tangy start followed by rich lamb, crunchy potatoes and zesty salad all matched with a beautiful point noir that balanced the lamb superbly. One of the best dining experiences I have had for a fair old while. Thank you Ryan, James and team, we were extremely satisfied with everything we experienced.
