The starters at Nikkei were noteworthy. The gyoza had a perfect crunch, revealing a rich filling. While takoyaki is a classic, you could never go wrong. The karaage was spot on, and the freshness of the mussels was astounding. Same with ceviche, creamy and fresh. I also had the pina colada, first time having one and as a first itβs pretty good. For the best 'eat all you can' experience, bring a friend or a group, I went alone and I shouldβve gotten a friend with me. After starters, there's an unlimited selection of eight sushi types. Service was top-notch, with attentive staff always on hand. The restaurant's aesthetics were in harmony with its menu, showing their attention to detail. My only wish? A touch more variety, I got full and tired after three rounds. But overall, Nikkei delivers a solid dining experience.

Fabulous lunch in the sun today. Attentive service and delicious food. Ordered three dishes which was more than enough for two aswell as two gin specials. The menu was small for the Japanese offering but was bulked up with tapas from Castros. We had the cerviche, a wagyu sushi roll and a tempura crab roll - simply oishi!

Loved it. Wasn't quite sure what to expect with Japanese/Peruvian mix, but really enjoyed it! The food was fantastic, tried beer heart for the first time (yum!), had the most deelish octopus, a great ceviche, and very nice nigiri. There was no one else dining for lunch when we were there, so atmosphere was a bit dull, but the service was great, very friendly and sitting outside on a sunny day with the lovely plants was just sensational. Highly recommend.

Delicious food with some really interesting flavours. The staff were also super friendly and passionate about the menu. Really enjoyed the octopus al olivo with the olivo sauce, the scallop nigiri (ordered another round), and the acevicado. The classic ceviche could have done with a bit more acidity (and dressing as it was a little dry) but the kumara was a delicious addition. Would recommend :)

The best Japanese/ Latin American food Iβve ever had. Everything was perfect from the service to drinks and food. Chefs Eiko and Komo cook to perfection. I loved that they came to the table to explain the dish. I donβt eat coriander, they also asked if I was allergic, just to make sure the food was ok for me to eat. I canβt recommend this place enough.

New restaurant upstairs in Riverside, sharing space with Castros. This Japanese South American fusion restaurant serves up some of the best fresh seafood Iβve had in Christchurch. The sushi rolls were to die for, the cocktails were delicious, and the chefs were so friendly and professional. The menu is small so overtime itβd be cool to see them have more sides available so I can enjoy even more of their food.
