The room was smelly and extremely cramped, and the locker for valuables was broken. The place felt completely disorganized. The common area was also very small, and I honestly can’t believe they charge this price for this level of quality. There were also occasional cases of theft. My friend got theft at this hostel.

I stayed at the Loft for a while during the kiwi picking season. The location in the CBD is very good, staff and other guests were always very friendly. The place was always taken care of - cleaned daily, sheets were clean, all up a good place. Keep in mind that it is not a luxury hotel and you will have a great stay. Fridge space can be limited when it's busy and some inventory could use a touch up, other than that a great place with a very casual atmosphere. I'll definitely stay there again.

Wouldn't recommend going there as a female solo traveler if you don't feel comfortable living mainly with men. Most guests appeared to be seasonal workers and really "lived" there. If you want a hostel to connect to backpackers your age ( early twenties) this one is not the place for it, it's more of a working hostel. Reception was unattended in the morning 9:30 to 10:10 as well which I found quite inconvenient after being a receptionist myself ( a guest had to help me with my luggage, since I needed to store my luggage). Staff seemed nice otherwise and facilities were pretty clean. The top bunks don't have a railing, so keep that in mind if you want to book there and don't care about the other stuff. All in all a weird vibe there.

I have stayed here 3 months while doing the kiwifruit picking season. It is a great place to stay definitely the cheapest one available in Tauranga. Good clean facilites. Helpful friendly staff helped me to get a job in kiwifruit orchard.

I have reserved the 6th to spend the night and I could not spend even an hour in the place, I went to sleep in my car. The dirty place, rude, annoying and dirty people. I couldn't even bathe calmly since a person was yelling at me from outside to come in. the kitchen, full of smell the common area. people would come in and leave the door to the room open. in Booking it mentions that there is parking but it is NOT like that. Really if you can sleep somewhere else it would be better. I would never go back! a zero score. definitely the WORST hostel where I have been in my life.

Nice hostel. Good facilities and atmosphere. I feel upset after reading all the bad reviews about the bed bugs. I am staying in this hostel from last 6 weeks and working in kiwifruit picking. 35 people staying in this hostel never got bitten by any bed bugs. All the people staying here are very friendly. None of them have seen any bed bugs here.

Different place to stay in, but was a great place to stay. A very nice manager, who I got off on the wrong foot, but that due to travelling all day. A very accommodating manager and met some great people at the backpackers. Would definitely recommend if you're looking for something cheap and close to amenities, and possibly don't mind sharing a room with about 5 other people.

Best bang for money. At 33 bucks plus 25 for as key deposit can't go wrong. Excellent location for pleasure as well as business. Right next to the transit stand, stones throw away from businesses, the waterfront, movies, dining, clubbing, pubbing you name it. Excellent professional and knowledgeable staff who go the extra mile and even helped my buddy find a job right from the word go. I live in the US and would be sending my kids backpacking next summer on a shoe string and will ask them to stay here. Highly recommended.

I used my own sheets, but the duvet (and everywhere, honestly) was full of bed bugs and other kind of bugs, of all sizes. Of course I spent just one night there. The hostel was pretty quiet, just the regular people living there long term. $33 the night plus $25 for the key (just as a bond). The staff was super friendly, but I wouldn’t recommend to stay there if you don’t like bugs crawling around you.
