Over in New Zealand for a vacation, and I would come back from Australia just to have the Braised Beef Cheeks again. Just beautiful!
As a professional chef, I can honestly say Patterson Restaurant is a hidden gem in Christchurch. My wife and I went for dinner and were really impressed from start to finish. We started with the Arancini and Gambas prawns. The Arancini was a standout, crispy on the outside, and the sauce was spot on, really tasty and well-balanced. The Gambas was generous, loaded with prawns, and full of flavour. Honestly enough to share between two. For mains, I had the beef ribeye steak, which was cooked just right. Juicy, tender, and seasoned well, you can tell they know how to treat good meat. My wife had the pasta of the day, which came with a saffron cream sauce. It was rich, creamy, and really well-balanced, not too heavy at all. We finished with the lava cake. Warm, gooey, freshly baked. Just perfect. One thing that really stood out was Chef Jagath the Executive chef he walks around to talk to customers. He was really friendly, chatted to us about the specials, and you could tell he really cared about what he was serving. That personal touch goes a long way. The staff were great too, helpful and friendly. And, the place had a great vibe. Pretty full for a Wednesday night, so clearly a local favourite. The presentation was on point, portions were generous and great for sharing, and for the quality of food, the prices were very reasonable. Highly recommend if you're after a top-notch meal without breaking the bank. We'll definitely be back!
Fantastic breakfast buffet and some real good menu options! The lunch menu is very good too, I loved the fried chicken and the burger. The dinner menu is also top notch, both of the steak options are fantastic and the salmon was delicious! Staff are very friendly and helpful! I've really loved everything I've tried here, and I've tried almost the entire menu now! Also, the coffee is fantastic!
Nice and close to the airport, great selection of food and wine. Friendly service. We were looking for somewhere to go on New Year's Day and unsurprisingly not too many places were open but Patterson's was staffed well. The waiters are super friendly and the food tasted great. Price is high but it's in a super convenient location. The lentil salad was really good! As non hotel guests (we had an Air bnb nearby) you're able to enjoy the restaurant and courtyard area.
The prices are expensive but it isn't surprising considering it is a restaurant of a hotel in close proximity to the airport. The food however is perfectly delicious, well made and flavourful. I really enjoyed all meals I have eaten here, in particular the duck and the deserts. When the bar is busy, the noise can be heard clearly in the restaurant area, which can be distracting.
My food was great. I dined with a companion who is Gluten Free. He had to return his GF main course because it was not gluten free. 2nd attempt seemed OK but I guess we will find our tomorrow. Staff kniwledge and service has degraded hugely since i was last here 3 months ago. Would be great if they could at least empty the rubbish bins in the loos
Staff so so friendly, And the food as vegetarian it was unbelievable. Didn't know vegetables could taste that good, the vegetarian gnocchi was delightful. And all the rest of the food. Well done

This is a very nice restaurant where the public can also enjoy a meal. It caters a great hot or cold breakfast, lunches and evening meals. Even if you are not staying in the hotel feel free to book and have a nice evening meal in a nice restaurant. The food is always very good and the staff are friendly, helpful and experienced. Do note it pays to book. Awesome 3pm to 5pm live music on Sunday and great snack food.
Yeah I would highly recommend this place. Really enjoyed the fish of the day dish and apparently there duck was dam fine too. Good setting, very decent service.
