We visited The Local on Waiheke as a group of six and absolutely loved it. The food was great, and the homemade pickles and tomato sauce were next level, honestly the best sauce I’ve ever had. The service was friendly and attentive, and the views were amazing. A perfect spot for a relaxed meal on the island. Highly recommend!

Some of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Simon is a great host and the decor is amazing and the view is incredible.

21 sept 2025 Hidden gem. Or perhaps us tourists just don’t know about it. Nice friendly owners too. Sadly they were out of chowder that day.

We had two unbelievable meals at the Local, probably among the first days they were open for the season! The service was friendly with good banter and the food was sensational, especially with the view overlooking the ocean providing some extra mental seasoning. I enjoyed the cheeseburger with bacon and a pop one day, and fish and chips the other. The fries/chips were standout, being among the best I have ever had. I would come back for a casual meal anytime.

I went here for lunch today and it was honestly one of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. I got the beer-battered snapper, which had a perfectly light and crispy batter, and the snapper itself was tender and full of flavour. The chips were the real standout β€” soft like mashed potatoes on the inside, crispy on the outside, with little crunchy crevices that made them irresistible. The salt and pepper squid was also fantastic. The lovely couple who run this place, along with their big friendly dog Andy, were warm and welcoming. Highly recommend!

Great fish and chips. Loved the portion of the basket. DF slaw was excellent. Wish I could take some home. Cashier/bartender(possibly owners) were excellent too! Andy was our favorite though!

Excellent fish and chips in terms of flavor and portions plus a gorgeous view! Love that they offered a GF option with the fish grilled, and the slaw was the perfect balance to the fish and fries saltiness.

Great snapper n' chips, friendly service, and a gorgeous view. Prices reflect the view and island location. First two beers I chose from their menu were unavailable. Good music and good vibes.

Such delicious fish n chips, top quality and made with fresh ingredients. Friendly and welcoming staff, pleasant atmosphere, however, the price was off-putting. Around $25 dollars for one snapper, chips, side salad & sauce, which is quite expensive hence the 3 stars. The margarita jug is well worth the price ($36), and would happily come again for solely that.
