   Excellent food, kid friendly and exceeded expectations!! I did not have high expectations as many beachside eateries can be either hits or misses, plus we came without a reservation but they were able to accommodate us. was pleasantly blown away by the delicious meals, great presentation and preparation, with attention to details. Even basic fries they managed to make it a treat for the tastebuds. Great wine selection, surprisingly easy to drink, tasty pairings, had the seafood chowder and was deliciousness in every spoonful. Nice servers, pleasant crew, great location and excellent value. I will recommend to all our family and friends!! A big bonus is that it’s right next to a gorgeous surf beach. What a hidden gem.

   We had an amazing experience here. My parents stayed and befriended some of the staff. We joined them the next night and got incredible service. I'm not a big meat eater so got the chicken burger and fries. Was so much food. My partner is a meat eater and raved about the steak. I believe it was all good meals over the two nights. Highly recommend.

   My partner and I came here for our anniversary dinner. The food was very reasonably priced, pretty classic food menu. We even got a free dessert as I mentioned it was our anniversary. Very friendly staff and cozy atmosphere with a lovely view! Will definitely be back!

   Had an amazing birthday dinner at Castaway Restaurant and Bar tonight! We visit Castaway Resort every year and always love the experience—sometimes we even stay the night and treat ourselves to the spa. The food was delicious and great value, the staff were incredibly warm and welcoming, and they even surprised me with a dessert that had "Happy Birthday" written in chocolate. We were seated by the window with a perfect view of the sunset over the ocean. Such a thoughtful and memorable evening—we’ll definitely be back!

   First time away for us since having our kids. Resturant was lovely & warm on a cold winters day. Drinks were served promptly, as was our entree and dinner. Food was yummy. Stuff were very friendly. We will defiantly be back.

   We were driving from Auckland to Rotorua and wanted to visit a black sand beach. We detoured to Karioitahi Beach and spent an hour on that magnificent beach. Afterwards, we were famished and drove up the hill to Castaways Resort. Lunch in the restaurant was just what we needed. The waitress was very attentive. The chef fixed a special pizza for the girls and a to order burger for our daughter. My wife even commented that the decor in the restroom coordinated with the outdoors. The restaurant also has a great view of that magical beach. Gary Hyde is the General Manager of the Castaways Resort and was a great help with our visit. He even dropped in during our lunch to greet us. We’ll be back on our next trip to New Zealand.

   Popped in for lunch and dinner while staying here. Staff are kind and patient while we made mistakes and wondered where to sit. Daily quiet while here. Food was of good quality and the servings were enough if not plentiful. Had vegetarian options. Chocolate mousse was fantastic.

   The food was really high quality and the service even better. A side of potatoes was a good choice as the mains were mostly just the meat with very little vegetables. Starter chowder was fresh, hot and delicious. Slightly overpriced but appropriate for the location and quality. Would recommend using an Entertainment Voucher to make it an all round perfect evening.

   Castaways, located near land’s end deep past Waiuku. Decided to pop in here (using an entertainment voucher) during a house-sit in Waiuku and the food was amazing. The salmon was very well done, lightly cooked so it wasn’t dry all. The lamb shank was incredibly deliciously seasoned and cooked the perfection. The pecan dessert was quite unique, made into a meatball style.
