Emergency visit with my mom who couldn't breathe well/walk well and had a heart issue - got told by the receptionist to find a wheelchair myself in the hospital hall (had no idea what I was doing or where I was going?). Under my mom's symptom's circumstances this was totally unacceptable. Did not find a wheelchair in the end, and had to have a security guard outside find one for her. My mom's experience however - had someone else's used gown and bedding on the chair next her bed. Needed to request to remove it, having to request three times before it was taken care of. Very unhygenic. Besides this, okay experience for her. Not our first hospital choice though.

My baby passed away under the care of the NICU team. The doctors never communicated the fact that she was critical from the day she was born, we only found out that she was critically ill because we requested the medical records. Not to mention the notes are hand written and my 5 year old can write clearer than that. Had a meeting with one of doctors a month after my daughter passed away and she pretty much had no answers for me. Every time I asked her a question, she would stutter. They’re now avoiding me and wouldn’t reply to my numerous phone calls. Wouldn’t even reply to my emails. When we asked why weren’t we given hourly updates since baby was critically ill, her reply was that some parents don’t like to know unless it’s good news. Why assume? Why not sit us down and communicate the fact that our baby is ill and she might not make it. Their negligence took my daughter’s life.

I have been scathing, in the past, about the care a family member received at Middlemore. A complete change from the warm, caring and helpful experience I had as a patient. John was admitted Friday and he was nervous, however, at the Saturday morning Dr's consultation I explained the four things we needed to ensure John's stay would be a positive experience. 1. He has a hearing issue - couldnt wear his hearing aids due to a skin issue. 2. Ensure he understands what you are saying - look at him and speak clearly. If providing new medications explain why - don't just approach him and say "Take these." 3. Make him feel "seen" - no two patients are the same. 4. He needs nourishing meals and not to be starved by only putting him on liquids. Today I have arrived and he is comfortable and speaks highly of the nursing staff looking after him. He sent me a Pic of his dinner lastnight... roast beef. While visiting today one of the personnel arrived to take his meal preferences for today and breakfast. I am very impressed with the selections. Thank you MMH you have raised the bar in communicating with your patients, providing wonderful meals and taking great care of my friend. Nga mihi to you all. xxx One more thing... when I was a patient, this same friend said to me "Remember - this is not a motel. Do not treat staff badly. Thank them for looking after you cos you might be the only "bright spot" in their long, demanding and very busy day. I took that to heart when they showered me and did my dressings and calmed my fears. Nurses and clinicians became my friends. Treat them well ... this vocation takes 4 to 6 years and each year they are continuously adding to skill set. It doesn't hurt to thank them.

The service provided when my wife needed it was incredible, she was cared for with such compassion, the nurses and doctors are all saints. I have no complaints there and will be forever grateful. Unfortunately when I cut my fingertip off, the ER wait was 9hrs due to one GP being on duty, this was disappointing to see and not fair to patients or staff, especially since staff have to bear the brunt of everything.

To be honest I was a bit skeptical being transferred from Auckland hospital to Middlemore Plastics Unit. However was pleasantly surprised at the level of care I received. From the friendly orderly's to the professional nurses, doctors & surgeons who explained everything and ensured thorough tests were done and that I remained there till ready to leave. Thanks Team!!! Your efforts and hard work are Much Appreciated!!!!

Guy at the front desk is an absolute nightmare. No sympathy, respect or kindness. Yelled at me and spoke to me with an attitude as I only asked how long the wait would be as I had to let my father know when to pick me up. I was very kind. He was very rude. Only one doctor working they stated. Over 8 hours wait. They need to sort this system out better! It’s terrible!

The nurses are alright, sometimes they are really nice and help but other time they can be a little rushed which is understandable... my main problem is the ambulance of dust in the room, especially in the respiratory ward. I don't think it's good for the patients to be breathing in dust, I cleaned of the dust and have photos to show just how dirty it is.

I have Undergone a surgery few days back in Middlemore hospital. The nurses are gentle, Kind and caring. They even looked after my belongings when I went to surgery, packed everything nicely and brought to me after surgery. Doctors are amazing and understanding too. They understood my pain and did surgery within two days. A big thank you to whole Middlemore team. Emergency department is extremely busy and the wait time is too long though but this is what it is.

I've given birth here a few years ago and the staff was very accommodating and my doctor was pretty good. Only one nurse was rather unprofessional that she never came back after I called for one for some formula to feed my infant that I had to try calling again and someone else came to my rescue Skip to my recent and hopefully last time I'll ever come back here; It's pretty late and my son has been feeling unwell. Waited 5 hours until we finally got a doctor who then shortly left again right after checking his temperature and heart rate. At this point I wanted to just forget about it and go back home. It's pretty much pointless coming here unless you have the patience of Job To the great nurses, doctors and staff of middlemore; thank you for being amazing individuals. Would really appreciate it if you guys could fix this big issue with the waiting.
