Breakfast is only cereal and toast It's walking distance to town however it's hilly on the way back It seemed clean on first glance however when you look properly it's not. The shower plug was disgusting. Must have been .months since it was cleaned However it's well priced so you get what you pay for

Clean and tidy rooms, great selection of TV channels, fresh towels every day. The room was smaller than anticipated, perhaps more photos of the rooms on the website would be a good idea. If you are gluten free you will need to take your own bread, there is a gluten free cereal.

The room itself was nice, comfortable, and cozy. Be mindful as there is no internal locking of room. Parking and other amenities were also satisfactory, which we appreciated. However, my overall experience was spoiled by the manager’s behavior. In the 3–4 interactions I had with him, I found his language and tone to be unnecessarily rude. What upset me the most was seeing him shout at my elderly parents during breakfast for no reason. It was disappointing to notice a clear difference in the politeness and level of service extended to us compared to other guests around. While the facilities were fine, the lack of respect and courtesy from management left a very negative impression. Unfortunately, because of this, we won’t be returning here again.

I'll start with the positives great location and rooms were clean and tidy. The "welcome" if you could call it that was terrible, the host was rude and condescending. He belittle me for apparently not knowing how to park properly and my daughter for leaving the room door open. However, didn't say anything nasty to my son. After this interaction, we kept to ourselves and only used the room to sleep and shower in.

Would not recommend especially for women travellers. No lock on the inside of the bedroom door. Unprofessional male manger, recommend you Google other reviews.

My family and I stayed at the Richmond Guest house back in 2017 and had the most terrible experience imaginable.. so bad that we search up the Google reviews once a year and have a little giggle at others having the same experience that we did. It seems that nothing has changed in the 6 years, and I wish I had written a review back then detailing all of the little comments that were made by John the host and his attempts to scare the females in our group. I remember John being so very rude to my English mother, so much so that my father stepped in to tell him what for. We immediately felt bad juju from the place, did not feel welcome at all. John made us feel as though we were a hindrance as apposed to paying guests. His attitude was so poor and disgusting towards both myself and my mother, we ended up trying to find other accommodation elsewhere within 30 minutes of checking in.. unfortunately, everywhere else was booked out in town. Our original plan was to stay for 2 nights, however, we tried to get a refund for our last night and John refused. We left a day early, ruining our Wellington trip. But we would rather have lost out on an extra nights pay, then to endure another at the Richmond Guest House. 6 years on and it still seems as though there has been no improvement. Disappointing to see that John clearly has no desire to improve or grow/ learn from these reviews. Much nicer places to stay within Wellington. Absolutely cannot say it enough, do not stay here unless you enjoy feeling abused and fearing for your safety!! Worst accommodation experience of my life.

Absolutely amazing B&B with beautiful rooms. If you're looking for a typical sterile, modern motel this isn't the place for you, but if you want something unique and cosy, here's a great value place!

This is a great location but a couple of things as a solo woman traveller that were not fabulous. 1. No internal lock on my door made me feel a little anxious 2. Dark street with poor lighting In regards to the quirky decor it's interesting and not a problem but the pillow slips were unusual with tapestry type cushion cover fabric and I put clothing over them. Generally a bit tired but clean, except behind the bedhead which I had to pull out to access power for charging the phone. Could do with a regular deep clean. I did not stay for breakfast as too busy so cannot comment. The owner/ manager is friendly, and possibly too friendly as I felt awkward to extricate myself from the conversation to get some privacy and rest in my own room. I don't want to seem rude or unfriendly but I paid to sleep there not to have to make conversation. That's just me though. He is friendly, helpful and very hospitable. It's in such a great location close to everything.

We had a terrible welcome, if you can call it that. Our room a horrible, musty smelling room. We booked two rooms but no door separated us so it was actually one room. It was too musty to sleep in the bed in the corner by the door. The shower outlet in the middle was fully clogged with hair and black dirt, water collected in the bottom when we showered (didn't look like it had been cleaned for over a year to be honest...). We requested the cleaner to clean it, which she did. The cleaner was lovely. There was no kitchenette to wash cups after making coffee in room. No water to drink apart from out of bathroom tap. No fruit at breakfast (bring your own!). Squeaky, wabbly table in room so couldn't use. No air freshener so had to spray perfume to improve the smell and air the room each day (all windows opened). Sheets seemed old and we questioned whether they were even clean. A seat outside would have been a nice addition. The host was incredibly rude, unfriendly, unprofessional, and made derogatory comments about our hometown and people he had met from our hometown. We would not have stayed at all if we had arrived earlier, and didn't stay 4th night as planned as it was so unpleasant. The positives however were: good location close to town and shops, cleaner was friendly and helpful when cleaning was requested, parking was good with a coupon to allow us to park on the street. We gave verbal feedback to the host upon leaving, and hope he takes it on board. Would definitely not recommend staying here, and we will not be back. Worst experience, and almost ruined a trip that was meant to be special.
