This place was epic. I stumbled upon it one evening while walking through the city and itβs like stepping into an old heritage pub. The service and atmosphere were great and I had the venison pie. It was a huge portion and probably the best pie I have eaten in my life. They also have a great selection of beer an itβs well priced. An absolute must if you can.

While visiting Auckland for the weekend we were enticed into this restaurant by the multitude of happy customers, the sounds of joy and the amazing smells emanating from within! We had spent the day adventuring the city and had a bit of a appetite, so off for a chowder and a roast dinner. The beef roast had a nice lining of fat with a crispy coat, and was bathed in a tasty gravy. Complete with roast spuds, carrots and green veg, this really hit the mark. The chowder was rich and loaded with fresh seafood, the mussels providing a delicate touch to the flavour. There was also a couple of slices of buttered ciabatta alongside the bowl which soaked up the lovely soup. We also ordered a side of fries which were salty and hot and topped off the meal. We left very happy as the atmosphere was very jovial and the wait staff were kind and helpful, especially given how busy they were!

I wanted to love The Occidental and was looking forward to their pot of mussels. We were seated quickly and our server was great. We took his advice and ordered a half of the lobster bisque, his favorite, and an additional white white and garlic...the lobster bisque was best! That said, all the mussels were fisher and drier then I would've liked. Still a great pub and I'd go back.

Dropped by on a Tuesday and was pleasantly surprised by their steak special with eat value and cooked just right. The mussels were fresh and nice, definitely a highlight. It is a lively spot, but I managed to get a table straight away with no wait, which was a bonus. Staff were friendly and attentive.

The reviews were generally good, but I was a little worried because there were some bad reviews. I went without making a reservation and there were four teams in front. But it was within 10 minutes. The staff was very pleasant and friendly, and we ordered a grilled green mussel, 500g steak, and kids fish and chips. The steak was cooked very deliciously medium and the green mussel was also delicious. The kids loved fish and chips. And I had a craft beer, New Zealand ale, and it was a fantastic combination. I highly recommend this place.

This is THE place. Food is amazing. Drink selection is phenomenal. It does full up quickly so if you are planning to eat here for lunch or dinner it wouldn't hurt to reserve a table. We ate here three times during an 11 day stay. It's that good.

Came here on a Saturday to eat some mussels. They also sell oysters, but mussels were cheaper. Place has a nice vibe and great selections of drinks. Last order was at 8pm, so plan accordingly if you plan to eat and drink here.

Love this venerable tavern that looks straight out of the 19th century! That made the visit worth it by itself. The beer selection was excellent, but know that they pride themselves on their selection of Belgian beers, and thatβs mainly whatβs on tap. We ordered the charcuterie board which was really tiny but yummy. Very popular place on cool Vulcan Lane.

This place is AMAZING!!! I've been here a few times and my bad for not writing a review earlier. The food is so incredibly YUM! This time I got the chicken schnitzel and it was out of this world. So juicy inside and crispy outside. The mussels are always a must, too. And the prices are super affordable with very generous portions. Plus, they were crazy busy and yet the service was so nice and the food and drinks came out so quickly. Our server, the girl with dark hair, cute bangs and glasses was such a sweetheart! Will definitely go back more often~
