Has anyone stayed in Everton Hall that could advise me about the experience? This a question on a REDDIT string. While β€œwelcoming and beautiful”, I’ve had two international students stay there 2023 and this year. They are international students. Everton was their choice based on the β€œgood reviews”. Both ended up with symptoms related to mould poisoning. A google search shows that mould is not new to hall residences of Victoria U. It was an issue in Weir House in 2022. People need to be aware of this - especially those investing huge costs to study and live abroad.

Love the location. It's perfect for someone who studies at Pip or Kelburn. Also, the students you live with are great. One of the cheaper halls. Also, the events they organize are great for students to socialise, or just get free food. However, some things to be mindful of: - Unsure how they assign rooms. Not on a first come first serve basis. Some small room rents are the same as bigger ones. Lacks transparency in allotment - Also the Head of Hall has unlimited power. This means be nice to him/her and she will give you a nice room. Cross them or even have a basic argument. May take things too personally - Some teams may need some training on Cross-cultural communication practices etc. - Feels like American students or students lived before are given special treatment. Another Indian flatmate complained about how staff tone changes while talking to coloured students vs white students. - The place is practically managed by other students. RA. Who are not the best judges of cleanliness? - Wish the cleaning before moving in or at least once a year needs to be done by professional services. Students can't do that. - They don't get it but they've one of the best halls geographically. Some of the houses are so good. Unique privilege in a city that is going through housing crises. Some houses are just managed poorly so are losing value. Hope management fixes things up - There is a new person. He is extremely professional. Gets stuff done. But I can notice how discomforting that is for members who have lacked a professional approach to things. Seems like management is going through a lot of changes. Good to not get caught up in their broil. PRO TIP: - Take pictures of rooms when you move in. Because on move out they will be fussy and put it all on you. - Always keep main accommodation services in loop of your situations, challenges. They are extremely helpful, professional and understanding - If they agree to things you're not answerable to anyone! Not even head of Hall. Will forever be thankful for their (accodomation services team) assistance to a new students in the country. Me and my friends were treated well. They are great. Just the teams on ground need to get stuff together.

Nice accommodation as far as student flats go. Certainly much nicer than anything I had back in the day. A little on the expensive side but all Victoria University accommodation seems to be wildly expensive.

The price is great for its location. 5 people in one flat gets messy really. Hall staff is friendly and helpful. Would be perfect if apartments with fewer people became an option.

Stayed over the Summer - Super close to the city, relatively affordable, great facilities.

My son lives here while studying at Victoria University. Looks like near perfect accommodation for students and a quick healthy walk to the nearby uni.

I stood outside of here waiting to be picked up on my way home. One of the nicer buildings to stand outside of during a sunny afternoon in the cbd.
