I stayed here in 1st November 2025 for 1 night for my stop over for a roadtrip to the south island. I left early and accidentally brought the room key with me in my carabiner. I called reception and mentioned I accidentally brought the key with me as I was rushing that morning headed to the ferry. The receptionist mentioned that She charged me $450 for the key, but it would be refunded if I returned the key when I return next week. The receptionist confirmed this with her supervisor. I had my wife listening on loud speaker. So given that both staff confirmed this and I trusted the integrity of Quest as a national brand, I thought all was good. I return the week later with the key and the receptionist took the key and mentioned that I will omnot receive any refund as promised because they tried contacting me through agoda. I booked through booking.com and showed them that I have not received any email text or call from them. So I was disappointed and requested a manager. The supervisor Alam came and mentioned that they will bring it up with their manager. Their supervisor and manager are aware that their staff, receptionist and supervisor, gave their word that I will receive my refund if I were to return the key. But the manager I talked to named Manjit said that her staff made a mistake and tried to contact me. So she said she wont give the refund despite her staff saying so. I appealed for a resolution. Manjit resorted to refunding me $100 out of $450. I accepted this as settlement but was very disappointed by how this was handled. I worked in hospitality before and if staff especially the receptionist and supervisor verbally commit to a refund then management should honor this and stand by her staff. Unfortunately, that's not how management managed this situation. A lot of blaming staff and the customer i.e. staff made a mistake, i as a customer was uncontactable. Its funny how they cant contact me but they have my credit card details ey. I believe I deserved a full refund and that the charge of $450 for a key was extortionate. I have supported the quest company over my travels in NZ but this has left a negative impression on me and my wife who meant to enjoy travelling thsi beautiful country. I hope this goes to upper management and I hope I get my money back. Otherwise, I will steer clear from quest Johnston and all quest establishments. Ill accept either the appropriate refund or accomodation credit.

Clean and comfortable room. Slightly north of the main Cuba Street Mall but walkable along the front or the interesting streets. Good facilities in the room. Comfortable bed. Good shower.

I am never a customer who will complain in full detail as I have done below, nor will I follow through with a complaint like I have done with this one, however I feel my experience at this property was one I simply couldn't ignore. I received the most appalling treatment, not just as a customer, but as an individual. If it hadn't been for Booking.com intervening over the phone & under different circumstances, a physical confrontation would potentially occurred between me & the individual by the name of Aman, who was present at the property reception when I arrived. I arrived approximately 5 minutes after reception had closed, & had already informed the property twice that I was delayed due to an international flight issue. It should be noted that the two people I spoke with over the phone earlier, employed by the property, were excellent in terms of help & communication. When I tried to check in, Aman asked for my name & then insisted that I pay 300 NZD upfront using a credit card only. There was no greeting or any form of communication, just a demand for immediate payment. I notified Aman that I would not be making separate payments outside of Booking.com, as all transactions are related to my work & can be/have been done in the past, through Booking.com. Despite this, Aman insisted on obtaining my credit card information & even threatened to charge my credit card through Booking.com from her side, which is not possible, but was confident she could. I then proposed that I might provide my credit card details, but I would withhold the 3-digit CCV on the back of the card, as it was unnecessary. In response, Aman began to request the 3-digit CCV number repeatedly. I stated that I would contact Booking.com to assist in resolving this matter over the phone. Aman then mentioned that the property also accepts cash payments, despite earlier informing me it was credit card only. I ended up confronting her for being dishonest and for contradicting herself. Aman then requested to see two forms of my identification as proof of identity and assured me that she would waive the security deposit payment if I provided ID. I submitted my private security personal clearance license and my driver's license, only to be informed that she would retain both identification cards overnight as payment for the security deposit, with a promise to return them in the morning when I checked out. When I eventually received my identification cards back, after 10 minutes of negotiations and arguments, Aman then proceeded to call me the following: angry, unstable and paranoid, along with being rude and unreasonable. I then asked to speak with someone else, but Aman insisted that it was unnecessary for me to do so, and refused to return my identification documents. It was only after I mentioned that I could potentially leap over the reception desk to retrieve them, as she legally has no right to keep these documents that are in my name, she then decided to return them to me with a smile and asked me to calm down as I was overacting according to her. Booking.com arranged a full refund, and I ended up at a hotel nearby. Aman was undoubtedly the rudest and most offensive individual I have encountered as of recently. Score: -0/10 Minus one star Helpdesk over the phone were excellent and helped me a lot, however I would not recommend visiting this property ever if Aman, a short unpleasant woman of Indian descent, happens to be at reception.

We were very disappointed with our stay. The room we were given had no windows, felt musty, and was much smaller than the pictures online. The bathroom was extra small and the floor was sticky, making it difficult even to wash our daughter. To make matters worse, my partner went to sit on the sofa and found underwear that did not belong to us, raising serious concerns about cleanliness and hygiene. This is a 1-star experience at a 4-star price. We wanted to check out immediately, but unfortunately they could not refund us.

I had to make a sudden trip to Wellington on Friday morning, so I was looking for accommodation late Thursday night. I called the hotel on Johnston Street, and a gentleman at the reception was extremely helpful, he arranged for an early check-in at 8 AM on Friday. Everything was well organised, the room was very clean, and I felt extremely comfortable during my stay. I was also able to work from the apartment without any issues. Please pass on my sincere thanks to the gentleman at the reception (the one with curly hair) for his assistance, as well as to the Indian lady who helped with my checkout and kindly kept my bag safe until I left in the evening.
