No idea how it is possible for this hotel to have a 5 star rating. Here’s what it is. 1. The entrance foyer is less than 720mm wide making it an illegal and a fire hazard. 2. The sliding doors to the toilet and shower were less than 650mm wide again not legal. 3. The shower is open and the drain cannot handle the water flow causing the bathroom area to flood and being slippery. 4. The drain in the bathroom had a terrible foul odour. I mentioned it to room service and they poured bleach down the drain which only temporarily stopped the smell. 5. No bathroom privacy. Just an poor curtain 6. The sheen buster bed. Be careful. The small backgammon size coffee table wobbler hopelessly out of order. I am seasoned traveller who very rarely makes complaints but this place needs to exposed for the lies it purports. Andrew. YIASEMIDES.

Located right along the waterfront, the hotel is narrow but built deep into the hill. After overcoming the strange little slope at the entrance (series of wooden bumper which made dragging luggage a chore), I checked in at a table next to a sign that read β€œOhtel Pantry”, which had initially confused me over which door I should enter. The rooms are large and beautifully decorated in the mid century (20th) decor. On the bed, there’s a card which explains the type of pillows, from which you can choose to use. I love the fact that there’s a Nespresso machine (seriously, which higher end hotel still uses instant coffee?), and in wet and windy Wellington, I love the heated towel rails and the fact that the bathroom is separately heated. What I did not love about the shower is that it is higher than the rest of the bathroom, so the water will flow out to parts of the bathroom. BTW, each room in the hotel is unique, check out their video to see. Service wise, it feels like I’m home. Everyone is so friendly, and I love sitting by the window on cold evenings with my cup of hot chocolate with their homemade marshmallows. Definitely going back to try the other rooms!

We had a wonderful experience. It was a very nice, spacious room with great amenities. We were lucky enough to have been given a room upgrade. Great location within walking distance to a lot of different things (beach, museum, markets, Courtney Place, Cuba street).

The hotel is quite charming with very nice staff and in a good location. Two things to be aware of. In your room you will find wine, nuts and crisps. They are not in the mini bar, so you might think they are free, but no, you will be charged handsomely if you have any of them. There are also issues with plumbing in some of the rooms. Most importantly, beware of the tables with glass tops. If you push them aside, they collapse and the top could damage your hand.

First stay at Ohtel and it was fantastic. The rooms are full of Kiwi nostalgia and the design and functionality of the rooms are awesome. Really could not fault the environment nor Clinton and Prasard who were also fantastic. I will def stay again and look you guys up when I next need a room in WLG. Keep up the great work :-)

Nice, quaint hotel. Front desk service is good, although often the hotel reception is also the restaurant staff, which can cause delays. The room is clean and comfy enough, and they gave us a complimentary bottle of wine, which was appreciated. There were a few puzzling design choices, such as a extra-wide bed frame that I tripped over a few times, and a very odd bathroom layout.

Quite a nice hotel in a good location. It’s a shame that it has a VERY busy road outside and a park where local youths play loud music until the early hours. Not a place for a restful night I’m afraid. It’s a shame. The staff are nice and our room was comfortable. That music and the loud partying though means I can’t recommend this to anyone.

Lousy service in the restaurant. As guests we expected our prepaid breakfast. Arrived at 8.45 (guide to leave at 10). The small restaurant however was fully booked, not only with guests. When a table became available there was no action so we had to remove dishes and trash and clean it ourself. After that it took over half an hour before the lady came to take our orders and to tell us that we could forget about having eggs if we wanted to leave before 10. We ordered muesli but that came after we had to go. We expected more. Rooms Shabby retro, noise of piping.

Compact little cafe/bar on the ground floor serving cakes and wine, a good spot on a sunny day, but not that great if it's raining. New World supermarket literally minutes away - very convenient for last minute snacks.
