It's a stunning view and the atmosphere is amazing. Fully packed but still worth the time spent.
We stopped at the beach for a quick packed lunch and only had time to dip our feet in the water. We really liked it — definitely a place where we’d love to spend a proper beach weekend next time we’re in the area.
Our family’s favourite place to catch the sunrise — we’ve seen a few and they never disappoint! It’s a beautiful spot for everyone — walk your dog, enjoy a picnic, go for a run, or take a swim. There’s beach access almost anywhere you park, with some paths made for wheelchairs. Lots of food spots nearby too, some right by the beach. Parking can be difficult on weekends, especially during holidays and summer.

Lovely clean beach with plenty of shells for the kids to collect. Great selection of cafes near by with a great selection of yummy food. Plenty of easy parking and a very impressive looking life station
I've lived in the Bay of Plenty NZ for ten years and have only just got around to walking to the top of Mt Maunganui. The views were well worth the effort!
Toilets by the Lifeguard Building. The beach is easily accessible. Huge waves with many surfers catching waves. Swimming should be between the flags with lifeguards nearby. You can access the Mount Maunganui summit tracks further down the road. Parking can be challenging when busy
Beautiful long white sandy beach. Visited on a Monday and Tuesday and felt like there was lots of room to sit on the beach or swim/stud in the ocean. The water was the perfect blue and turquoise colours and the waves looked great for beginner and intermediate surfers (although I’m no expert!). Definitely worth a visit - walk on the beach, swim in the ocean, or relax on the sand. There is also some grass and shade behind the beach to escape the sun on a warmer day.
