Commemorative fountain installed in 1904, still functioning in 2024. Built as a memorial to William Robert Blythe (1841-1903), who was born in Scotland, and arrived in Napier in 1870. Among his achievements, establishing his own haberdashery business in Napier in 1872, in 1882 he was the author of a treatise regarding improving Napier Harbour and construction of a breakwater. He played a key role in the beautification of Clive Square between 1884 and 1886. He died in Sydney on the 7th of December in 1903, and is buried in Old Napier Cemetery. Installed in the year following his death, the fountain reflects the aesthetics of the time, featuring images of lion heads, herons, and lilypads. The fountain survived the earthquake of 1931, albeit with damage to the upper bowl section, which was not repaired until 1999. It was restored to its current state in 2015.

Quite an interesting looking fountain at one of the entrances in Clive Square. The golden colouration and lion heads were really different. There were then white swans above the lion heads dripping water. This was one of the more interesting fountains around the city.

Very peaceful little park area with fountain close to Napier Township. Close to toilets and Countdown Supermarket. The fountain has been painted to reflect the art deco era it was made.
