The best restaurant on our 2 week NZ holiday back in October. Or maybe ever! The food was a comparable price to all the restaurants we went to, but the food was several levels above any other. Truly Masterchef fantastic, attention to detail, multiple elements on all dishes were fine dining magnificent. The duck tacos superb, bang bang chicken oh my gosh, paua fritters a delicious adventure, desserts oh wow, candy floss cosmo cocktail how fun. All this at reasonable price. And where did we go the next night. You guessed, back for more. And wait …. The music playlist was just perfect, an upbeat chilled version of favourite hits. I want to revisit Dunedin just to go back there. Unforgettable.

We're spending a few days bouncing around south South Island, New Zealand, and as a North American who now lives in this wonderful, I am VERY AWARE of how kiwis love to slip beets into everything. So I am wary. Watchful. Borderline suspicious. However, we had a fantastic dinner at Vault 21 and very little of that was due to the delightful lack of beets. Allyson was our server and a total joy. She helped us navigate some shared dishes while also ensuring my dinner partner and I got a bit of the stuff we liked (but the other might not). Pierogies were great, fried not boiled, and just melted across your tongue. Lamb was very tender. The sliders awesome and thankfully not those messy types that turn you into a BBQ-slathered freak where you end up with bits of napkin confetti all over your face, waving brown-papered hands as you beg your server for wet wipes or damp bath towels. And a huge order of fries! Very tasty and the bowl was as big as your head. Awesome. Had all sorts of dinners and lunches this past week, but so far, Vault 21 tops them all. Highly recommended.

Staff friendly and efficient. Lovely atmosphere. And the food was delicious. Highly recommend the steak sandwich, won tons and the bang bang chicken. A very pleasant experience and good value

It's chic, but sorry, the food is not my cup of tea. It has no doubt this is another fancy restaurant at the Octagon. Asian fusion, and it's very busy. To me, the taste of the food is more important than the atmosphere. The food only looks good or maybe I don't know what and how to order. I did see other customers were eating the wagyu slides, that might be one of the signature thou, unfortunately I didn't order.

The Restaurant looked not as busy as the others as you walk up to it, however as soon as you get a look inside you can see that it is a popular place! As soon as we walked inside, we were greeted and taken to our seats. Lovely atmosphere, great service and the food was delicious as well.

Pretty good fusion restaurant. Food is nice, portions for mains a tiny but thats kind of expected for type of place, some of the dishes are quite bland i.e the bang bang chicken and very pricey for what it is. I highly recommend trying the sweet and sour pork, it is delicious! Also the Japanese sunset cocktail was lovely. Asides from a small mix up everything was smooth!

Vault21 kindly sponsored my blind date way back a few years (Street art for the first sight) and offered a free drink and small dish. I was definitely intrigued by their pretty extensive menu, decent pricing and ambience. I knew then I wanted to come back. Their menu was an asian inspired mix of small dishes and main kitchen meals, a very interesting take if you ask me. I got the espresso martini, my date got the Hangzhou cooler, and we both ordered the smoked ribs. Espresso martini for you coffee lovers out there, even though I'm not a huge fan of coffee, this was an icy blast! Couldn't finish it though, coffee is just too much for me! The hangzhou cooler was goooood, it was like sprite!!! Super delish. Smoked ribs smelt amazing, and they photographed really well under flash lol. The flavour was really exquisite, Smokey and sweet and sour with tang and spice. The meat was lacking a bit but overall quite tender and flavorful. They serve 5 pieces. The only con about the ribs were that some hits were slightly too charred. 4/5 Also a brief mention of their cutlery-they provide knife, fork and chopsticks. Very interesting. Found out that the owner was chinese, made more sense on the asian fusion twist of the menu!
