The staff here are so friendly! I think they are the owner but they give off such a great vibe! A couple of mates and I came here for a drink a few weeks ago and ended up staying for hours and joining in on Kareoke! Such a fun time , defo recommend anyone going here
Went there tonight for a quiz night. Atmosphere was great, but that's about all this place had going for it. The owner tried to charge my friend extra for his chicken burger, and when he got it, it was missing sauce, bacon and other bits n pieces. I ordered the steak, medium well. It was well done, and the eggs were overcooked. Another friend asked about gluten free options as they had all been taken off the menu. Here's a hint - if you're going to roll your eyes at that sort of request, best the customer not see you do it. Gazza the owner seemed very disinterested in what was happening, didn't check in on anyone or see how their meals were. The lady in the kitchen was run off her feet so guessing that's why the meals took over 45 minutes to get, and were wrong. This place has definitely gone backwards under the new owners. Sorry - won't be back.
What a fabulous location and very accommodating team. Great venue for our sons 21st. Service was amazing. Highly recommend. So funny all the kids when home and told their parents all about it so that’s got to say something!!!!
Great menu, wholesome meals nicely presented. GF buns on the burgers are amazing (makes a nice change!) Hosts Debz, Greg and Georgia are amazing, friendly people.
Georgia, Deb and Greg provided amazing service! Best bar and restaurant in Christchurch. Really nice cocktails and food. Highly recommend and will be back to the pearl! Thanks for the great hospitality!

They catered to all my needs and were so friendly and inviting. It's got a real family feel to it. I particularly enjoy the Friday karaoke nights and the bands on Saturdays are just awesome! If you're after a good night with excellent food and service, the Black Pearl Tavern is the place to go!

I randomly found this tavern on google while having a meal and a drink with a few friends in downtown Christchurch, I was looking around for someplace to go sing some karaoke- which is very hard to come by during COVID! My buddies were skeptical, but I decided I was going and that was it, they came along. Within minutes of arriving, we had already decided we were coming to the Black Pearl anytime we went out for drinks during our stay in Christchurch. We were treated like family from the moment we walked into this tavern! Greg, Deb, and Georgie are absolutely amazing and run a great business, if I'm understating it. They're all the best sort of people you could ever hope to be friends with, along with several other patrons, and it's easy to see why. Aside from the fantastic owners/manager, and amazing bar staff- the food here is wonderful too, with fresh and local ingredients. The fish and chips is top notch, best I had in my life actually. To top it all off, the bar manager makes a mean cocktail- she really knows what she's doing. If there's ONE place you go for some drinks, a get together....whatever- while you're in the Christchurch area- GO HERE. Not only will you not regret it, but you'll find me and thank me later, because this place is life changing. If I could give it 10 out of 5 stars, I would.
