Great 3 weeks spent in a tandem camper - easy to drive, all the equipment necessary for basic camping - need to find showers from time to time. Great team at Auckland airport.

The car we bought is very well built, with high-quality materials and thoughtful design throughout. The vehicle is in great condition, runs smoothly, and gives a very reliable overall impression. We are satisfied with our purchase.

This company will do everything possible to avoid paying for warranty repairs! Dealing with Trek Campers has been one of the most stressful and time-consuming experiences we’ve had. What should have been a straightforward warranty repair turned into months of back-and-forth, shifting goalposts, and constant resistance. Every time we complied with what they asked, they changed the requirements. First we were told to get a quote from any garage — then that quote was suddenly “not acceptable”. Then we were told we should have gone to VTNZ (which was never in the agreement and VTNZ couldn’t even assess the issue). Then they questioned whether there was a problem at all. Eventually we had to go out of our way to get an AA inspection just to prove the fault existed. After all that, they insisted we drive hundreds of kilometres to Auckland or Christchurch for repairs — completely out of our way — despite us having work and housing commitments elsewhere. It felt very clear they were pushing this because repairs at their own workshop would cost them far less in labour, especially as the job required removing the engine. None of this was stated in the warranty we paid for. Even once they finally agreed to a local repairer, they made payment unnecessarily difficult, insisting on rigid “internal policies” that were never disclosed upfront and left us stuck without a car or facing serious financial strain. This whole process caused huge stress, wasted time, and felt like an attempt to wear us down rather than genuinely honour a warranty. Based on our experience, I would strongly caution anyone considering buying a vehicle or warranty from Trek Campers.

Our experience with Trek campers was great! After some inconveniences at the beginning, which was handled great by them, we spent a marvelous time with the large camper! With all the cooking equipment it’s easy to cook at one of the gorgeous free camping spots around NZ! The sink and the small toilet make it possible to camp on the self contained camping spots as well which made it even easier! We would definitely recommend renting a camper van with Trek Campers for your trip through NZ!

Their fleet is older, I received a vehicle with a sliding door that only sometimes worked. The vehicle otherwise ran fine until the day before I was supposed to fly out when I used the key to unlock the vehicle and the key broke off inside the front door. After a miserable night with the windows down because I could not raise them and trying to call for help with poor service I was informed that the assistance service they use will not send a locksmith 30min outside Christchurch and I must pay AT LEAST $700 to tow the vehicle and pay for a new key and to fish out the broken piece. They refused to help with any of it despite paying for their top insurance policy. Now I like to learn from bad situations, but on reflection I had no fault in this situation other than using the vehicle as intended to camp at freedom camping sites. There was no way I could avoid this and it was not my fault. I tried to work with them to share the payment or ask if they have a spare key I could have driven to me (30min outside of Christchurch!) BUT THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY SPARE KEYS FOR THEIR VEHICLES. Like at all. Anywhere. Who owns a vehicle without a spare key? I DO NOT recommend this service at all. It was mediocre from the beginning, then it was a truly AWFUL ending. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else. PS: the I read on CamperMate that if your self contained vehicle does not have the toilet available while you are in bed that you can be fined $400 at self contained sites. The Tandem does not pass that test, be careful what vehicle you rent.

I booked with Elements World approximately one month ago and placed a deposit. I received a confirmation and even personally corresponded with the company via email regarding their insurance to make sure I understood the different options. Five days before I was going to pick up the rental, Elements emailed me to say they had made a mistake and were cancelling my booking. In high/shoulder season, this left me scrambling to find a comparable vehicle at a reasonable price. They did not offer to help me find a rental with another company. Even worse, they addressed the email cancelling my booking to another name, which they later corrected - so they were cancelling multiple reservations. I would not say that they are a reliable option when trying to plan a smooth trip.

First of all - the amount of people going on our tour consisted of a whole whopping two of us. The fact that the company didn't cancel the excursion because of that is amazing. Dave, our tour guide, was waiting for us in the lobby on time and ready to go. Since it was just my friend and I, Dave allowed us to tailor the day to what best fit our interests. He was very knowledgeable, and had several funny anecdotes about the areas we were visiting. He was also friendly and easy going. Bless his heart, we must have changed the plans on him no less than 5 times, and he happily rolled with the punches each time. We were able to see everything we wanted to, including two truly gorgeous waterfalls, and Dave made it so that we were able to experience the beauty of New Zealand in the way that appealed to us the most. Even if we did have to share this tour with others, the places we visited were stunning, and ended up being some of the top highlights of our trip overall. Great day, impressive scenery and wonderful tour guide.
