My good lady & I chose to visit the Elmwood Trading Company(the best local in the country)for an evening meal.I was known to Marty Fuller mine host who personally welcomed us both & directed us to a very comfortable alcove.A very charming German waitress presented us with a comprehensive menu & took our drinks order. We both chose the lamb shoulder with all the vegetables, gravy & mint jelly. The meals were outstanding & very filling, therefore no room for dessert. What impressed us apart from the food quality & quantity was waitress Berry as I discovered she was known by being most attentive by checking on our enjoyment & wellbeing. We wil be returning very soon as the Seafood Chowder one of my favourites looked outstanding & my good lady has a real liking for Blue Cod both of which featured on the menu. Thoroughly recommend food, service & ambience.

Very disappointed overall, service was bright and cheerful so that one for the win column, drinks were good. Two out of three meals were borderline inedible (donβt go for the mushroom sauce on a steak) overpowering red wine jus flavour to the mushroom sauce no flavour of mushroom, blue cod was the only redeeming meal of the three meals. Sent one steak (ribeye) back as tough as shoe leather and overcooked, thankfully the next (replacement) was fine although still overcooked slightly. The sauce ruined what could have been a nice meal, ordered the crushed duck fat potatoes and was let down again. Would put this as a not to return dining experience.

Elwood Trading Company delivers a memorable dining experience. The steak was exceptionally tender, complemented by a velvety potato kumara gratin that elevated the dish. The fish of the day, blue cod, was executed flawlessly β fried crisp yet retaining a smoky, juicy succulence. The hand-cut chips were seasoned with finesse, rounding out a meal that exemplifies thoughtful cooking. A venue well worth recommending.

I went to eat here with some friends a few weeks ago. One friend asked if there were any vegan options. She was told that there wasnβt, as the pizza bases had butter in them. We went to this bar as I had earlier overheard another patron ordering a vegan pizza which she was subsequently served. Either my friend was lied to or the patron was served a non vegan pizza. A friend of mine who goes to the bar regularly, subsequently confirmed there was no butter in the pizza base, confirming that the kitchen just couldnβt be bothered serving my friend. It also confirmed that they lied to my friend/a customer. This is supposed to be New Zealandβs best local bar. I find this hard to believe given it does not cater for a growing group of the population. I would not recommend this bar to anyone with dietary restrictions.

A group of 6 of us dining in and each choosing differently. Food was great and good quantity so no one left feeling hungry. 'Doggy bags' were taken by 3 because there was just much to get thru. Dessert enjoyed by 2 and good coffee enjoyed by another 2. We have been before and we will go again.

Posted on Behalf of a close friend since the original review keeps being deleted magically. Actually, I would rate this establishment zero stars. We had a table booked for a group of 12, two of us watched the rest of the table eat their meals while we were waiting patiently, by the time we got sick of waiting and everyone at our tables nearly finishing their dinner we asked why we hadn't recieved our meals yet and they had been cancelled. Both of us left very hungry and dissapointed. I would not recommend this place to anyone unless you like to be forgotten about. Also, you might want to update your website with your false advertising.

Went here for my sons birthday as had heard good things . Was really disappointed. Was really disorganised in the restaurant as had to go find someone to see where we were sitting . When we were ready to order once again had to go ask someone to come take out drink and dinner order . Garlic cheese bread arrived hard and burnt around the edges . My husband and son had ribs which they said were average as not much meat on them . I had the pork belly which was delicious. Daughter had pasta that she said was average and bland . I work in hospitality and never complain but this needed to be told or it will continue to disappoint. Bar was lovely and cosy .
