We’ve been coming here for over 25 years and have always loved it, which makes this feedback hard to share. Sadly, on recent visits the food has lacked flavour — salads were very light on dressing, and the key flavours described on the menu just weren’t coming through. It’s been disappointing compared to what this place has always been known for. We’ll still enjoy the occasional drink here, but are less likely to stay for extended dining. We genuinely hope the food finds its way back to what it was.

Great! Lovely venue, food was nice. Service was OK, all round good. Pays to book, hard to find a table.

Food was okay... the coconut shrimp risotto was all coconut cream and not much balance to the taste. Seafood chowder too salty. Steak was good and fish and chips not bad.

This was hands down one of the best dining experiences we had — and what a perfect way to wrap up our last day in New Zealand! We really wanted to try a Wellington steak, and this was one of the few places that offered it. Since we weren’t too hungry, we asked the owner if we could share one portion between the two of us. Not only was she totally understanding, but she also thoughtfully plated it into two separate dishes for us — such attention to detail! The steak itself was absolutely delicious, and the service was warm and welcoming throughout. The biggest surprise? They had fresh Bluff oysters — not the boxed kind you see everywhere these days, but the real deal. That’s incredibly rare now! If we ever return to New Zealand, we’d definitely come back here again. Highly recommended.

We had two tables booked outside for drinks and snacks on Saturday evening and we received the most amazing service. The staff member looking after us was amazing, he was very attentive as soon as we arrived through to when we left. He continued to check if further drinks or food were needed throughout the evening, and it was great to be able to pay for these at the table rather than having to go to the bar. We had an awesome night so thanks so much!

We used the library for a family gathering. It was the perfect size for our group of 20 for a cocktail style event with sharing platters. Sam was very helpful in ordering our food in advance, and the space was nicely set up for us, so once we got there we just ordered our drinks and the food service was bang on time. The bar tender was really attentive and the door staff very polite and friendly. Highly recommend.

We had a wonderful lunch for mums 8oth birthday. The team were AMAZING and made mums day so very special. Everyone went out of their way to provide a warm and inviting space when we couldn’t use the courtyard due to the rain! It was absolutely fantastic! Thanks everyone at No.4!

Lovely brunch and lunch food. All orders came within seconds of each other, and everyone was happy with what they ordered. It's nice to have a meal somewhere where everything is on par with expectations. A nice spot to have a chat and catch up with friends. Would definitely return.

Absolutely 10/10. First time my daughter enjoyed gluten free battered fish and chips! Our meals were absolutely flawless. I enjoyed the prawn skewers and my husband had a steak and all meals were perfect. Thank you!
