This place is a must for a wonderful dining experience. The food here is top tier and in comparison to other fine dining restaurants I have eaten in the service and the food is exceptional!!!!!

About Us
Chim Choo Ree has long been a popular eatery in Hamilton, known for its warm hospitality and consistently well-cooked favourites. Housed in a converted brewery overlooking the Waikato River, the restaurant features unfussy décor that complements its Art Deco-flavoured architecture. The knowledgeable staff provide a friendly welcome, enhancing the overall dining experience.
The menu, crafted by co-owner and head chef Cameron Farmilo, offers a fresh take on classic dishes. Patrons can enjoy starters like tuna tartare with miso mayo or snapper agnolotti, followed by mains that receive equal care. The puddings are a highlight, with creative twists on classics such as a coconut panna cotta with lychee granita and banana ash ice cream. A pleasing selection of wines is also available to complement the food.

Adorable interior and very friendly staff. The music was fun. The food was exceptionally delicious. I was surprised it wasn’t packed with people. Where I’m from, Seattle US, it would be difficult to get reservations and a place with food this good.

The food was exceptional. Not a whole lot to add other than that, if you're looking for a fine dining experience I would definitely recommend.

Beautiful food, and even lovelier staff. Chim Choo Ree offers a dining experience that feels both refined and relaxed. Every dish was packed with flavor, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care. The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely passionate about what they do, which made the evening feel extra special. A true Hamilton gem — I’ll definitely be back.

Dined here with friends for dinner. Fabulous service and awesome food. All entrees, mains, side dishes and desserts were cooked to perfection and the accompaniments really accommodated each dish. All the meat and fish was cooked perfectly. Such a delicious taste sensation. The cheese board was perfect too. Great wine list! What more can I say, we will definitely be back.

A very average experience at best. Due to the small portions I would have suggested to just go for the food presentation and top notch quality of ingredients but sadly the underwhelming flavor of most of the dishes do not justify the price. Service was decent.

As an huge foodie I very much enjoyed my dinner here. I am very picky with how the ambience of the restaurant is and good service is an absolute must for me. I was attended by a young lady that seemed to lack some experience however made up with her very bright personality. The food is extraordinary! Venison I absolutely loved it and the bread was amazing. For entrees me and my brother both ordered the tortellini And it was fantastic. My last tortellini experiences from portofino was horrible but this was perfect. The filling and pastry ratio was perfect And the cream went very well with the tortellini. For mains I had the venison and it was cooked perfectly. The risotto was so full of flavour and probably the best dish I have ever had. For dessert we shared one large cheese board and I gotta say the Brie went so well with the cracker. Wasn’t too keen with the cheddar however. I Went over to The kitchen to thank the chefs and one of the chefs was absolutely hilarious. I had an very enjoyable dinner tonight thank to all the staff that made our night I will be back

I was recommended this place by a few people, must say not very impressed. The prices were very high, the meals were tiny and looked like they were thrown on the plate. The waitress was new (so she kept saying) and had to keep going to the kitchen to answer any question I had. Not many gluten free options. Hubby had the prawn entree that looked nothing like the pic on their website although he said tasted ok but lacked seasoning. He has the steak main which was small but cooked to perfection! I had the tofu entree which was delicious and the gf wellington which I thought was very strange but ok tasting. We did get 2 delicious prawns before our entrees with garlic aoli on top which was lovely (on the house) Thought the restaurant was lacking atmosphere. The wee man working there was super lovely! Won't be back - to expensive for small amount of food - had to wait ages for food - not enough gf options - waitress needs to learn the menu better - not hugely impressed with food for price.

Dinner for two on a Saturday evening. Staff were generally very good. The restaurant decor is nice. We both had an entree and main. The main took a long time to arrive, and the restaurant only had a few groups in it. Looked like there were four people working in the kitchen. The food was very well presented, and tasty. Don't go here for a big meal though!! They didn't ask for a refill of our drinks which is not good both on a business perspective, and also a customer perspective. I would have given it three and a half stars but no halves allowed - so four stars it is. Worth going to - to make up your own mind.
