We were recommended to go to Coriander's Restaurant whilst visiting Christchurch as we were told they had a very good vegan menu. We decided to go after a comedy show & arrived at the St Asaph St Corianders at 9.30pm very hungry. Staff were very welcoming & said they were open until 11pm so we could get a table for two. We explained that we needed all our food to be Vegan & Gluten-free & they said they could do that. We ordered vegetable pakoras & onion bhajis for starters & a glass of wine each which was all very delicious. The waitress bought out a yoghurt sauce with the starters which was quickly whisked away by the head waiter as it had dairy in it. So we thought that they had the allergies & dietary requirements sorted. We ordered two curries to share with rice as our main both from the vegan menu & were told that the curries were also GF & Vegan (we always ask several times as this combination is very rarely catered for well at any cafe or restaurant anywhere in NZ). Everything was absolutely delicious & we were impressed with the soya chunks in the curries (used instead of chicken in the vegan curries), so much so that I asked where I could source it for my Vegan, 99% GF wholefood cafe in Timaru. I was told by the waiter that it was called Soya Chaap & could get the tins of it at local Indian Supermarket or through food service providers. Later that night my husband was feeling very uncomfortable with gut pain & bloating & the next day he was not well at all, barely able to function. He is very intolerant to gluten (basically a coeliac), but we couldn't figure it out as we were sure that Coriander's had catered to our vegan & GF needs. We decided to go to the Indian Supermarket to buy some of those tins of Soya Chaap & to our great disappointment discovered that they contained not only soy, but gluten wheat flour which was the 1st ingredient. So as we own a 99% GF cafe, I definitely couldn't use it at all. We are very hot on making sure the 1% of ingredients that do contain Gluten in our cafe (organic oat milk & organic date scones) do not ever get cross contaminated with the GF ingredients (as my hubby is very intolerant of course). Anyway, I am very sorry to have to write all of this as we initially were thoroughly impressed with the service & the delicious food but I feel like I had to do this review to let other folks who are GF know that they can't have the vegan curries with the soy pieces in them as not GF. My hubby was sick enough from just one meal but it could have been much worse for someone with chronic Coeliac Disease. Suggest staff need more training all round both FOH & Kitchen staff as they may not be aware of the gluten content of the Soya Chaap they are using but it was clearly labelled on the tins of all the different brands at the Indian Supermarket. We won't be going back unfortunately, which we are very sad about.

Chicken tikka was great. Biriyani was very bad, one of the worst I've ever had. It was a bit sweet and not much spice at all, and not much taste apart from this. Portion sizes for biriyani is also super heavy, restaurant should work on biriyani quality and have smaller portion sizes and prices. Staff were nice and when i conveyed the same reviews to them they took it humbly

Curry was better than expected and tasty, quite creamy and not runny. Medium hot wasn't very hot at all though so if you want some spice I'd recommend getting the hottest option. Garlic naan breads were soft and good portions. The restaurant itself is quite nice too with good seating and tables lighting, separate rooms and good decorations etc.

I had a wonderful evening at Corianderβs City and canβt recommend it highly enough. The food was absolutely divine every bite bursting with flavour, beautifully balanced spices, and a sense of freshness thatβs rare. What I especially loved was the variety: there are so many options to choose from, whether you enjoy meat, seafood or prefer vegetarian dishes. Every meat dish has its own special place on the menu, and similarly the vegetarian section is just as thoughtfully crafted. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. Great for a night out with friends or family. Portions are generous and value is excellent for what you get. All in all, a top-tier dining experience β honest, flavourful, welcoming. Iβll definitely be going back!

I pre booked and paid for a pick up takeaway order for 7.35pm today and finally left with my order at 8.09pm half an hour later than expected. If I had been told that the wait was this long I could have opted to leave and got a refund. This was never an option. Your customer service needs work. When I asked and others also waiting asked how long their orders would be, the staff member said he was on his own trying to get our orders filled in a less than friendly manner. I understand the pressure of working in an environment where you get busy and have to juggle several things at once but itβs how you get the message to the people waiting. An offer of a voucher for a free drink or $ off your next order would have gone along way to making those 4 people feel happier about the prolonged wait. Managing peopleβs expectations with courtesy gos a long way. The food was fabulous as always. But the way the delay was handled has left a bad taste.

The food here is delicious, packed full of ingredients and flavour, love that they offer dairy-free and vegan options. We had a slight hiccup once, which the manager very quickly fixed........and I'm glad because we do enjoy it here. Our favourite dishes are the posht and the bhuna masala, so good!!

Nice flavours, not very spicy- asked for one hot and two medium and they were both mild? Garden salad is a joke but over all loved the meal and my leftover lunch the next day!

We had a lovely meal at Coriander's after a day out fishing. The food was great, and the ambiance perfect for catching up with friends. The service was somewhat confused with us having to correct the order several times. Nevertheless, it was an excellent overall experience.
