I've been coming here since it opened, probably about 30 years or so and not sure how many owners it has had but it is relatively still the same except probably not quite as good as it was in it's heyday, when it pretty much set the standard for Vietnamese cuisine, in my opinion. Don't expect silver service but it's unpretentious and efficient. Vietnamese food is my favourite and I have travelled throughout Vietnam and their street food, and culture is truely amazing wherever you go in that wonderful country. My favourite go to dish at Vietnam Cafe is called Pho, raw beef noodle soup with fresh herbs in a clear bone broth that has a depth of flavour created by expertly infusing spices and aromatics like star anise, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, fennel, coriander and ginger into a beef and marrow bone broth that is gently simmered for 24 hours. There are so many layers to this aromatic and complex dish, no wonder it is a signature dish in Vietnam. Every Chef will have their own secret ingredient, just like making a fine wine. Also I like fresh rice paper rolls with pork and prawns with a dipping sauce, I prefer nuoc mam to the traditional hoisin and peanut sauce. Another favourite is Combination Rice with soft egg, pork chop, Chinese sausage, shredded pork belly, prawn and fried spring onion and slices of cucumber. Curried Chicken and rice is a very satisfying comfort food and there always nuoc mam and chillies you can add to your liking. Vietnamese coffee is the best there is, served either hot or iced and there are many other shakes to choose from. I always like to order Jackfruit or Durian but the Red Bean and Grass Jelly are just as good. I recommend mix and match or sharing is a fun way to try lots of different dishes and you really can't make a wrong choice. The food portions are generous and very good value and most importantly very nice.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I’ve been coming here since I was young, and now I bring my own little family every now and then. The food still tastes just as amazing as it always has — always boom! The service is fast and friendly too. If you’re looking for some good soulful Vietnamese food, I highly recommend coming here to try it!

Tried a few new items today, but honestly… I think I’ll stick to my usual orders next time. I went with the lemongrass chicken on rice — sadly, the flavor didn’t hit the mark. The seasoning felt a bit off and didn’t have that punchy lemongrass aroma I was hoping for. Also tried the beef with fine egg noodle soup, but the broth was a bit too mild for my taste , not as rich or satisfying as I expected. In the end, nothing really beat the usual favorites: Sparerib with egg noodle soup and Vietnamese spring rolls , still the best combo for me. Comforting, tasty, and never disappoints

Fantastic food!! Really delicious Pho and rolls with generous portions and great service. The spring rolls are SO meaty and the summer rolls are huge and juicy! The meat is succulent in the soups, there are plenty of condiments and extras and it is just a perfect place for a BIG FEED for a great price. The atmosphere is unpleasant though, and so is the location. It’s very ‘cafeteria’, everything is cheap and plastic in a big room with fluorescent lighting (so awful) so it’s far from comfortable - still if you want proper portions of great food at a good price it can’t be beat!

Have not been over 15 years and the food is still the same which is good as I loved the dishes. Went as a group of 6 people and we enjoyed our meals. Sooo good and still a popular place to eat

Have the pork rib with sausage on rice. It was ok, not really a rib but a pork chop. It was too orange colour. Not really Vietnamese restaurant, mixed up Chinese more. Overall not too bad.

Back again to our favourite Vietnamese restaurant in Auckland the “Vietnam Cafe located at 38 Atkinson Avenue, Otahuhu, Auckland 1062 New Zealand.” This restaurant never fails to disappoint. A young gentleman promptly gave us a table & served us as soon as we walked in. We ordered a prawn rice noodle soup for hubby, my usual rice noodle beef ball soup, our hot served spring rolls 2 serves & 2 x pineapple smoothies! Deliciously cooked and my husband’s favourite rice noodle broth. Staff are always polite & kind to everyone who walks into their restaurant. Highly recommended. I’ll be back here with more family on my next visit to New Zealand.
