I always come here for lunch whenever I am in the area (located around the middle of the main drag Clyde Road, Browns Bay), Zero Japanese Ramen are right up there with the best of them when it comes to flavour and spice levels. The first time I dined there I was a bit surprised that there were not extra seasonings on the table, like soy sauce, mirin and chili oil etc. but no need, every meal is perfectly seasoned and that is a hallmark of a chef that knows what its about. An example of their skill is demonstrated in Agedashi tofu ($16) balancing umami flavours without overpowering the dish, it is perfection with a light subtle broth and slightly chewy fried rice flour coating around the tofu, leaving you feeling nourished and ready for the next course. Today I had the Spicy Karage Don ($20) and spicy green salad ($17), the salad came out first "Itadakimasu" (thank you for the food) and I got stuck in. It was packed with fresh greens, tomatoes, spring onion garnish, and beautifully dressed with a tangy and fresh grated wasabi dressing - be aware to mix it up a bit and have with your main meal as it packs a punch! Then came the Spicy Karage Don ($20), it was perfectly cooked and the spice level on the crispy coating was deeply complex without being too hot, I don't know what seasoning it was, it was totally new to me and I loved it!! It paired perfectly with the salad, the rice was also beautifully seasoned and it came with a small salad garnish. It left me wonderfully nourished and I had extra to take home for dinner. It would have been nice to have a glass of chardonnay with it but the only white by the glass was a Sav, but I get it, not a lot of people drinking wine on a Monday lunch in the burbs (???) to justify having an extensive by the glass selection. Browns Bay has really become an eating mecca of a town these days and there's a lot of dining options in the area, but if you have been tempted to slip behind the 'Noren' curtain at the door to see what delights are awaiting you behind, you can rest assured you will be taken exceptionally good care of you and you'll have Zero regrets "oishikatta desu".- thank you to the Chef I loved every bite.

So bad we needed to leave a review. Food- special wagyu ramen consisted of a boring broth and one piece of meat tasting of baking soda. Wagyu don- 4 pieces of meat. It was chewy and tasteless. Karagge chicken was nice- large pieces and hard to eat with chopsticks. Extremely long wait at uncomfortable bar tables. Asked twice to move. They forgot one of our drinks nor did they check in during our wait if we wanted more. Only when we moved after over 45 minutes did they serve the drink. Plum wine serve extremely small. Bathrooms dirty, and right by a table. When raising concerns they were dismissive. Wonβt go back.

The ramen is always amazing here @ Zero. Great atmosphere and service. The Chicken Karage super crispy and juicy. Truly amazing. Give it a try whenever you're around Albany or Brown's Bay.
