Great vet, made us feel at ease with their professionalism. Understood our dog and made her comfortable. Thanks for the care and support.

After reading some of these reviews I was scared of going. The empathy bit got me. Well I have to say the specialist Peter Collinson was lovely to me and my very elderly dog. He talked me through my options what was in the best interest of my aging pet. He was gentle with him and kind to me. An upsetting outcome for Ace, however the kindest outcome for him. Peter certainly ensures the best outcome for the pet. As for pricing he charges what everyone else does if not a bit less. So thank you Auckland Animal Eye Centre. Just waiting on Franklin vets for surgery. Update: surgery completed on 13/10 my boy came through ok and recovering at home.

This is by far the worst specialist I have ever encountered. Completely incompetent, shockingly unprofessional, and utterly indifferent to the well-being of animals. It was clear their only interest was in taking money, not providing care. I strongly advise others to stay away — this is not someone you can trust with your pet’s health!

We were referred from our vet to Dr. Peter for our Sharpei X eye atrophy because of his breed. Professional, thorough, considered conservative options before offering surgery, Dr. Peter really puts you at ease and provides really clear easy to understand information and we are very grateful to have had his expertise in helping Mo out. Mo came home from surgery yesterday and was back to his normal self this morning and his eyes look great. THANK YOU

I had a similar experience as @Mermaid, I also feel robbed and felt a lack of empathy from the specialist Dr, considering having your dog’s eye removed is an emotional trauma for a family. I was referred to him to make an appointment for an emergency eye removal. In my 5 minute consultation the Dr. just said that my local vet can do the op, he is on lunch now and has no time slots to operate and then charged me over $300 for the 5 min consultation. When I politely mentioned that I wasn’t sure why I was referred to this Dr for an eye removal when I could have gone straight to my local vet after being at the emergency referral centre, I was responded to with a rather arrogant response saying good luck in finding another eye specialist and that he would refuse my pet future treatment. I guess when you are the only specialist in your field you can do, say and charge whatever you want - to hell with customer service.

My dog developed melting ulcers in both eyes. Medications were not helping so the vet referred me to Auckland Animal Eye Center. Expensive... Yes I won't lie. But it was necessary to try to save her eyes. Before the surgery here eyes looked bad and her vision loss very noticeable. He checked her eyes and told me she would need surgery ASAP which is what the specialist vet had said would probably need to happen. He told me the price I was looking at and it was a day where surgery didn't normally happen so he has to call in the anesthetist. I got there on time to pick her up and he told me I had to wait so she could wake up properly from the anesthetic. He went back in with her to monitor her. He's very good and explained the medications I had to give her. It's now just a waiting game to see if her sight can be restored as melting ulcers are disastrous. He was very good with her and he was our only chance of saving her eyes. The Specialist Vets where I have been taking my dog highly recommended him and he was up front about the situation we were facing both cost wise and my dogs situation. Thank you Peter. I'm extremely grateful for you acting so quickly with my girl. Fingers crossed the damage the melting ulcers did can be repaired to give her better vision. I highly recommend Auckland Animal Eye Center. A month on from my dogs eye surgery and she can see reasonably well considering how bad they were as pretty much blind. Because of Peter's quick actions for my baby. Im so greatful. Have had follow ups as well and i can walk her off lead 2 weeks after her surgery. She no longer trips over curbs or walks into things. She has sight all because of Peter and all his advice has been spot on. Im so greatful and my dog can continue having off leash walks because she can see and is much happier. Thank you
