Really beautiful park in the middle of the city. The trees are huge and well established. The park is a gully so lots of great incline paths to get more than just basic, flat steps in. Highly recommend the stairs entrance off Hopetoun Street, it's a beautiful pathway all the way down to the bottom of the gully. The playground here also looks great with some epic slides.

A lovely inner-city park with rolling hills and a fabulous playground, including long slides and a zip-line.

Western Park is a large park in the middle of busy Ponsonby area. Being on a downhill slope, It is accessible via Ponsonby road on one end and streets linking to Hepburn Street on one side. There are a lot of walks with some uphill climb given the nature of the terrain. The bottom part of the park features a large kids playground which is very popular with families and kids. Some interesting art installations are maintained on the top end on Ponsonby Road, on this park which makes this a very unique spot for art lovers. We had a great time in the playground area and kids enjoyed it a lot. Highly recommended for half a day's outing.

I attended the woof rainbow dog show at this park. It was so much fun. The park playground is like a theme park, the view is stunning and has good bathroom facilities.

Sooo cool! I searched google for ruins in Auckland and this came up. Since I was in the city, I decided to check it out. Situated on the edge of Western Park (Ponsonby Rd side), these sculptures are a perfect way to commemorate old Auckland. Just catch an inner link bus and get off opposite the spca boutique.

My most favorite park in Auckland Central. It's quite huge with lots of trees which you could do long walks and jog around. And you can do calisthenic workouts as well! There are two tennis courts, play ground with zip line, work out stations, tables and benches, toilets, water stations, box where you could leave and/or borrow books, etc. I'd like to separate the workout stations here. We work out here during summer. It's plenty for calisthenic exercises: diff height of pull-up bars, parallel bars, ab plane stuff, monkey bars, balance beams, and slippery wall. It's really a great place for fitness in general. I work close to this park, so sometimes I would do my sanity walk here. For me, this is the best park in NZ so far. (Pics to follow, maybe)

An awesome playground awaits, featuring fast-flowing slides and a thrilling flying fox that offers impressive views of the city. While it can get a bit boggy during the winter due to a makeshift lake, it remains a nice spot for kids and adults to play and relax.

Cool park, nice walk, heaps of shade. Toilets, water fountain, slides, swings, mini trampolines, flying fox, those ring a round the rosey thingys lol I think that's what it's called and seesaw. Field, court and a good place to walk dogs and alot of benches, picnic tables and seats to chill.

Took my family there the first time , it is a relatively large park with lots of spaces for kids to run around. Piblic transport is conveniently located on the out skirt of the park. On one end there's 3 giant slides where kids can spend unlimited time of, next to the slide is a flying fox. Public toilet is nearby, plus a few tables for pinic. We happened to visited the place during Easter event and it was packed with people. Highly recommended for a good day out i the weather is great. Do note that you do require slight fitness level to walk up hill on exit.

Western Park is one of the most peaceful and relaxing lush open spaces of 8 ha (20 acres) in the Auckland city, right in the center of salubrious suburb Ponsonby. It was opened in 1871 and considered Auckland's oldest Municipal parkland. It is also one of the three oldest parks in Auckland city, the other two being the Auckland Domain and Albert Park. The park is enriched with verdant vegetation including beautiful established pΕ«riri, tanekaha, karaka, rimu, pōhutukawa and Morton Bay fig trees in the park. There had been a stream running by the side of this land in ancient times which had been called Tuna-Mau by the local Māori, meaning 'the trapping of eels'. There is a playground, accessible toilets, fitness equipment, tennis courts, sports fields, drinking fountains, picnic tables and seating. The colourful playground will appeal to kids of all ages, which has two slides for racing, treehouses, swings, a seesaw, balancing features, small trampolines and a flying fox. The 25m slide is one of the highest and longest in Auckland. The lower-level play area features a wheelchair-friendly basket swing and spinning apparatus. The park is studded with sunken sculptures designed to represent historic Auckland buildings. They were created by famous Auckland sculptor John Radford resembling replicas of three building β€œruins” and made of reinforced concrete. The sculptures are popular with climbing children and sets an unusual photo shoot backdrop. The one-kilometer Western Park Path loop around the park is a very popular short walk among the city dwellers.
